In before papalovesmambo.
Michelle Obama touches queen before queen touches her - world doesn't give shit
Well, seeing as how the Queen has her hand on Michelle's ass, I guess she didn't mind it too much.

Musta been those goddamn toned, bare arms!
According to everything I've read regarding this, since the Queen put her arm around Michelle first, it was perfectly appropriate for Michelle to reciprocate.

I'm sure Goth knows!
At least neither Obama winked at her.

All these queenly rules and regulations! They should just high five her and be done with it.
The big deal the press has made over this non-issue. Unbelievable. The Queen had to put out a statement saying that it was okay. Christ!
The queen has clearly heard about Goth and wants to head him off at the pass.
"At least neither Obama winked at her."
Or massaged her shoulders for that matter.
Or grabbed her ass!
Imagine the consequences!
I'll always remember Joan Rivers's line about meeting the queen, and not knowing how to act:
"I'd only ever seen her on a postage stamp. So I went over and licked the back of her head."
Reg, when you mentioned winking, I thought you meant the other kind...Britney style.
*runs screaming from the room at the very thought of that*
"the Queen touched her hand to Michelle Obama's back, and the gesture was then returned. Royal etiquette dictates that the Queen not be touched unless she reaches out first."
Madbrian already touched on this, but it seems as if Michelle was within etiquette guidelines.
Hey, at least no one was fingered.
Oh.
Dear.
Lord.
BWAAAHHHAAA!
i've never known a queen who didn't like to be touched.
This is such a non-story.
The queen has been man-handled in public by an Australian prime-minister many years ago.
I suspect his intentions were rather more cynical and self-serving than those of Mrs Obama, who was merely reciprocating a gesture already made.
Could this be a case of the American media playing to national prejudices?
i think it's more the british press. they were the ones who went ape over obama's treatment of gordo and the gifts and the link listed here goes to the daily mail. so before you go blaming the american media, maybe you ought to see where the story comes from, f***-o.
"Mrs. Obama clearly made an impression with the 82-year-old monarch ? so much that the smiling queen strayed slightly from protocol and briefly wrapped her arm around the first lady in a rare public show of affection."
Michelle Obama charms queen away from protocol

"i think it's more the british press. they were the ones who went ape over obama's treatment of gordo and the gifts."
Separate story.
Separate thread.
Nothing to do with protocol.
And as such completely irrelevant to my comment.

It goes right to the story which isn't on the Huffington post.
"It goes right to the story which isn't on the Huffington post."
The article in The Huffington Post offers quotes from the Daily Mail and offers a link to the Daily Mail, just as it also does for an article in Time magazine.
A wider search of the media on both sides of the Atlantic will give a more balanced view of the differences of international interpretation afforded to this story.
