Posted: 12/30/04 at 3:45pmWhat are you cool folks listening to these days that has nothing to do broadway? I'm stuck on the soundtracks to Garden State and Bend It Like Beckham. Plus I'm on the hunt for some road trip music this weekend. Any suggestions...

For night time driving I suggest the Incubus album "Morning View" (acctually I'll listen to it anytime but it's a nice cd for the night, enough chill mixed with power)
And even though I'm not a huge fan, for driving early morning, like around 5 or 6 a Live Dave Matthews Band CD. Dave goes well with the morning fog. Plus the longer the cd the shorter the drive feels.
Hope those help on the road trip.

Posted: 12/30/04 at 3:53pmFor Christmas I asked for and received Gwen Stefani's new solo album, the new Destiny's Child, and Renee Olstead. I recommend all three - Gwen and Destiny's Child for some high energy, and Olstead to relax and savor the standards.

Posted: 12/30/04 at 3:54pmthanks - I am definitely a fan of both bands. Generally my standard driving cds are SIDE SHOW and Last 5 Years but I'm a little over them right now (but both are fun to sing along too)

I always take the opportunity to recommend Teitur.
The cd is called "Poetry and Aeroplanes" and it is one of the most beautiful cd's you'll ever experience.

Posted: 12/30/04 at 5:30pmJohn Mayer and Josh Groban are 2 of my favorite non-Broadway performers. John Mayer has an independently-released CD called "Inside Wants Out" of which I am a huge fan, and Josh Groban has such a smooth, pure voice.

I am ADDICTED to Green Day's "American Idiot." A great cd. Highly Reccomended. Also, I echo Yellowcard and Maroon 5. I liked those two bands before they were famous. I saw Maroon 5 in concert the middle of last year at the House of Blues. Only a small group was there to see them. Who knew that I was watching a band that was going to get HUGE in the next year. If you can find it, I also reccomend KARA'S FLOWERS, which is Maroon 5 before they became Maroon 5. This is what the cd cover looks like.
