I'm a proud member of a multi-World Championship team. :) I've been involved with the program for twelve years I think. We have a very dedicated group and practiced constantly.
Huzzah! I used to do DI... our last year was about two years ago, and we made it to Worlds... huzzah.
I had been on a different version of the same team a couple years befoer, and we were DENIED state championchip... though we should have gone... *still bitter*
I haven't done DI since fifth grade, but it was a blast! It's such a well-organized and satisyfing thing to be a part of. My sister's team got fifth in nationals last year, and I got to tag along with them to Tennessee.
yeah, and whats up with the t-shirts being such an ugly color you cant wear them out , lol ......... My team always does the improv challenge and we usually place 1st in that but then we get to the instant challenge and totally bomb it ... We've made it to states .... haha
For those of you who switched to DI: What place do you have to get at regionals to go on to state? I've heard of a team getting fourth and advancing and I thought that was strange.
In DI where you go when you place all depends on how many peope were in the challenge you're competing in ... like if you had 2 teams in the improv group , one team goes to states but if you have 48 in the improv thenmaybe 5 teams will go .... yeah Its weird
This year, I've noticed, Illinois implemented the "let's pick a 4th-placing state team at random and send them to nationals" rule. Which is all well and good, but it can be unfair if there are only four teams in a category and that fourth team that was picked sucked, when a much more deserving fourth place team from a bigger category could have gotten picked.
Illinois has pretty lame pins, too. No cell phones, no DiPods. Nada.
Ha ha. I had to practically sell my soul for an iPod pin.
BUT I HAVE ONE!! AND A CELL PHONE!!
I am so proud.
But as for the "who goes to worlds" thing, in my state 1st place will always go and second place may go if there is room at the Worlds competition. It all depends. That doesn't really ever happen in my state though. Usually, it is only when there is room at State for teams from Regionals.
As a college student, I'll be judging at regionals and state, must likely a style judge in the technical, classical, or performance problem. I think my former high school teammates and I will get together a div. IV team. We'll most likely do the technical problem, as it is general tradition for our group.
I don't know how I found this like 3 pages in but I am a 2 time OM team member. Also a world finalist! It was probably the 2 best years of my life. I know plenty of people on it this year. Also, I saw one of my coaches yesterday and also saw some 3rd graders working on their skit. I miss it!
so today my team was like "lets go shopping at Michels to get art stuff" and then we were like "hmmmm yeah lets change EVERYTHING" and now everything is changed--and we have to more rehearsals and my skin is not doing well with all this stress.
lol, Yeah, my team did that in the past. We had an interesting incident my sophmore year of high school. We did the technical problem, and about two months before regionals, we decide that our technical performance also meets the criteria of the performance problem, so we enter it in both problems. We got first in both, and went to state with both. Everything was really geared to the technical problem, and we just threw a few crappy things in there for the performance problem and didn't expect to go anywhere with it, just do it for fun. Anyway, our coaches were sure to emphasize that we were the same team during two problems, so we wouldn't get the same spontaneous problem twice.
But we did anyway. Our coach told is if it happened to just do that problem and then tell the officials afterwords. We did, and they wanted to give us zero points in spontaneous for both problems. Because they screwed up. I don't remember exactly what happened, just that our coach was furious and gave them a good whatfor. I think the compromise was that we would get half the score for the technical problem. So we ended up getting first in the performance problem, and not the technical.
So we're head to world finals, and we have a technical performance for the performance problem and had to change everything. And then we got first place at world finals. What a year. :P
