picking your reality (not your nose)#0

browsing the harry potter whore thread gave me an idea:

if you could choose to live within the reality of a work of fiction (or a series of works) which would it be and why?

I'd love to live in Hogwarts, because magic fascinates me.

But the other place would be in Clive Barker's Abarat world. I read that book SO many times because the whole concept of it was amazing. It has all of these places that are SO different than our world, such as the land of the 25th hour, the island full of creatures that sing, scary little cat-type things, etc.

I have my books and my poetry to protect me...

Narnia. No question.

But Hogwarts is a close second.

Hah...i would have to live in the world of Hairspray on brodaway. Walk down the David Rockwellian streets of Baltimore where everyone dresses in William Ivey Long's colourful clothes and has hair like Paul Huntley's wigs and sings Shaiman-Whittman tunes and moves like Jerry Mitchell choreographed them...What an amazing world that would be.

Narnia would rock, during the peaceful times of course. re: picking your reality (not your nose) Also, Wonderland would rock too I guess.

Hmm...if Earthsea let women be mages, that would be fun. Having a daemon in the world of His Dark Materials would be cool, too.

I think Hogwarts would be cool. At least it would be more eventuful than where I am now...

It would also be fun to live in a Dr. Seuss book. Not sure which one in particular though.

Here in this cold white room tied up to these machines, it's hard to imagine life as it used to be. Laughing, screaming, tumbling queen... Like the most amazing light show you've ever seen. Whirling, swirling, never blue... How could you go and die? What a selfish thing to do... RIP Jason

I'm afraid my choice is pretty pedestrian by comparison.

Walden, by Thoreau - because a life of quiet solitude in communion with nature would suit me much better in the long run. Although, at this point, my solitude would be shared with my life partner.

Although, re-reading your question, I guess Walden doesn't qualify as a work of fiction. So, I'll pick Jonathan Livingston Seagull, so I could fly free the way I'd like to, and spend my time in pursuit of knowledge and shared wisdom. Updated On: 12/21/04 at 08:26 PM

yeah i wanted to put that in there, d, because there are so many non-fiction works that i'd love to inhabit. this way we can go back later and re-visit the idea later with non-fiction.

Hmm... I'd love to live on the Discworld, from Terry Pratchett's books. It would be so much fun!

If you're going with non-fiction, you might as well start a thread about which historical era/place you'd like to live in.
