Ugh, that was bad. She really did say, "ching chong." Like, over and over. Wow. For someone so PC-watchdog-like when it comes to protecting her own special-interest group, that was pretty LAME.
countdown to her eventual apology begins...now!
God, that's pathetic. I'd LOVE to see her apology after she attacked Kelly Ripa over something that wasn't offensive at all. I want to see Lisa Ling go back there and call her on it.

Amen, Erika.
And Lisa Ling would reduce her to rubble in seconds.

Ah...the Rosie haters are at it again. Why are people so jealous of her? Is it because she talks about issues or because she isn't a right winger on Fox? I've heard more offensive things just by watching 10 minutes of the Fox so-called news channel.
What do you mean "her own special interest group"? Do you mean gays? Or do you mean the anti-Iraq crowd or the anti-Bush crowd? If you meant gays, I find the term "special interest group" offensive.
And what do you mean Kelly Ripa was not offensive? Maybe not to you, which I expected you to say, but several people in the "special interest group" were offended by her nasty comment.
I was waiting for someone to raise a stink about this ever since she said it. Get over it! It was a joke.
"Ah...the Rosie haters are at it again. Why are people so jealous of her?"
Oh, I see. Finding offense in something a person said means you're jealous of them.
Where do you get that from?
I don't see the problem.

Rosie- there are certain times when you need to just Shut Up!
jimnysf, I'm "hating on" Rosie because she just made offensive remarks about over 1.2 billion people. If talking about "the issues" consists of mocking the most commonly-spoken language on Earth and insulting the Chinese people, than Rosie is doing a fine job.
And what Rosie "joked" about here is comparable to Kelly telling Clay to get his hands off her mouth because she doesn't know what guy's ass they've been in. Rosie's comments were blatantly offensive and racist on surface level. With Kelly's, one had to read into the commonly-used phrase and make assumptions based on Clay's rumored sexuality to get to the final offense: "Kelly only said that to him because he's gay."
What's even more shocking to me is the fact that people here don't see a problem with Rosie's racist comments and are so quick to defend them as a "joke." Did you laugh at Michael Richards's comments too?

Is this high school? Why if someone raises a legitimate criticism of someone are they atuomatically jealous or a hater? I love Rosie on The View. I doubt she intentionally did anything to hurt someone, but it was a really tasteless, thoughtless thing to say and she should apologize.
I think we said the same thing!

You guys still haven't explained why it's really that offensive. Would you be freaking out if she had said something like, "I bet in France they're like Oui oui croissant Donald Trump c'est va bonjour Paris Hilton"?
I don't know-is there much difference between "offensive" and "THAT offensive? "It's just plain offensive. And I think it's obvious and doesn't have to be explained.
Well, I'll amend then. I don't think it's offensive at all. For all we know, Rosie has a working knowledge of mandarin--but then it wouldn't have been a funny joke.
everyone's a little bit racist...
I honestly don't think it's a big deal. Why don't we all stop talking to each other so NOBODY is offended by anything anymore??
Honestly, as a Chinese-Canadian, I can't say I'm too riled up, for the same example that Ronin gave - while I roll my eyes thinking that ignorant people actually perceive the Chinese language to be like pots and pans clanging together, I don't think this outcry would be the same if Rosie was "imitating", say, a French or German newscaster.
I am, however, put off by what she did simply because you KNOW if Regis Philbin was imitating a Fashion TV commentator and used limp wrists and a lisp, Rosie would be on that soapbox faster than you can say, "Clay is fey."
I was surprised when I heard and saw Rosie do that. She represents (or intends to represent) the more tolerant, liberal, understanding, and PC faction of this society. I was shocked to see her behaving like such an ignorant bigot.
Since when is joking around meant to be taken seriously?
Anyone can use that statement at any time. Why didn't Michael Richards think of that? Or Mel Gibson?
