i don't think you can have enough threads on this.

anybody else hear speculation that tony snow's gonna be brought in as press sec? wow, that would just totally complete the circle from fox to the white house, no? plus it would focus anger from the left on that for a while. i can already hear some heads exploding over the mere thought of it. helen will so fall for tony.

no one should really surprised that with all the recent puffed chest gloating on the left of the certainty of their mid-term coronation that karl's being sent to do what he does best: win elections.

oh, and the bet still stands.

who "takes the fall" is up to the independent investigator and the grand jury and whom they decide to indict.

my indictment guesses are:

mcclelland: nothing

ari fleischer: perjury, obstruction of justice

rove: identities act, perjury, obstruction of justice, conspiracy (rico)

libby: identities act, perjury, obstruction of justice, conspiracy (rico)

condi: perjury

cheney: perjury, obstruction of justice

john bolton: espionage act, perjury, conspiracy (rico)

judy miller: criminal contempt

bush will pardon all but judy miller.

Karl's swiftboating and scapegoating tactics may have worked successfully to poison and pervert the American electoral system, but they have utterly failed in the arena of policymaking and statemenship.

And in front of a judge and jury and a prosecutor as principled as Patrick Fitzgerald, Rove just looks like a Disney villainess.

The judge who sent Judith Miller to jail was initially reluctant to do so, but after Fitzgerald showed him some documents, the judge said, "This is a crime of such magnitude" that he would send a reporter to jail.

When those documents come out, Karl Rove will be where he has lways belonged: in jail.

Without getting into character judgement, something that seems clear to me is that Rove is a master at completing a task at hand. If, in fact, he is going to be focussing on the mid-terms (which seems a logical choice and conclusion,) then this is not good news.

PJ - obviously, there's been some disenfranchisement. But, the minds of Americans are rarely held for long, and if someone doesn't step up and fill it with something else, it won't be difficult to fall back on the status quo. And mid-terms are notoriously under-voted already - and those that do are usually the moderate to conservative ones.

I absolutely applaud the hopeful stance, but I think the reality speaks for itself.

Rummy will be gone by the midterms, probably less than a month before them. As dumb as the president is, the republican party is smart and they'll let him know that the way to win back some favorable opinions is to cut loose the most hated member of the cabinet.
