I mean, I'll be talking to people and the city will come up in conversation and they'll say, "I don';t like that place, everyone's mean down there!" And in most cases, the person hasn't even been there before! they just stereotype NYC based on movies and other people's opinions. Sure, I've met m,y share of nasty people down there, but I live in Syracuse and let me tell you, this city is just FULL of nasty people. I think I've bumped into more rude people up here then I ever have in NY or on Long Island combined, and I'm there a lot!

If you were knocked down in the subway in DC, you would have at least five people come to your aid immediately...and they'd all be lawyers.
