well i REALLY wanna audition for Peter Pan and i pretty much know ill make it because the daughter of the childrens director said she would get them to pick me....but you have to miss a WHOLE lot of school and im trying to convince my parents to let me audition for it any ideas..will it really affect my grades that much?? btw i already tried the whole this is my future thing and it looks good on my resume because its professional theatre...well any help would help!!!! thanx
I'm having the same problem! One of the best theatres in my area puts on A Christmas Carol every year, and I've talked to some of my friends that have been in it recently and they said it's the best show they've ever been in. My parents want me to audition even though I told them I would have to miss school in order to rehearse and do matinées, and I seem to be having a bigger problem with missing school than they are! I am going to audition no matter what and see what happens, but I'm dredding having to chose between school and this show if I get a part.

ya...all my friends who have been in it says that thats their favorite play theyve been in...and not only do i REALLY wanna do Peter Pan but once they know you at that theatre you dont have to audition for plays the automatically cast you...btw what part do you want in "A Christmas Carol"?
If you're required to miss serious amounts of school, you could probably do it by correspondence, or if your in NYC check out the Professional Children's School. Or, they might even have a tutor at the theatre.
A lot of my friends that have had to miss school said they just talked to their principal and teachers before the show and told them. My only problem is I go to a pretty challenging private school and not many people at my school are into theatre so I don't know of anyone who has missed school for a show before.
As for a part in A Christmas Carol... I have absolutley no idea. Similar to your case I've almost been guarenteed a part, but I have no idea which I would get. I've seen the production a few times (it's a huge tradition here in kc) but I don't know what part I would fit.
Let me know what you decide to do with Peter Pan! I saw a local community theatre do it this summer and the cast LOVED it. It does look like a great show to be in.

Yeah my friend (well there was more than one person that I knew but this person is the only one I am really friends with...) was in The Sound of Music at Syracuse Stage in December, and he missed a lot of school but I think they had a tutor there since there were two seperate casts of children.
My other friend also missed school for a show she did this past June, but she didn't have a tutor and it wasn't that hard to make up because she only missed chorus and studyhall or something.
I'm sure both of you will work it out. I mean, if you want to do the shows badly enough, I'm sure that you'll find a solution that works for everyone.
