Actually, I remember when the original DVD came out that it was criticized for being "bare-bones," because at that time DVDs with director's commentaries and other special features were being produced (though probably not as extensive as the post-LOTR DVDs we're seeing now). Cameron said he didn't have time to put together a more elaborate DVD, and that a special edition package would probably come out in the future.
Evelyn: My favorite *good* deleted scene is the one where Jack and Rose are walking together after the "exertions belowdecks". I understand why it was cut, because it could have slowed the pace down and I liked the juxtaposition of showing Rose so happy at the party and then back under Cal's crushing control. But it's a sweet little scene that I think nicely portrays the feelings they are developing for each other.
That one has major blue screen problems. It looks like they're acting against a fake sky (same is true of the extended 'navigation before collision' footage and Old Rose's 'tokens of wisdom schpiel' in the white gown).
Yurk. Most of the outdoor scenes have that problem. Was greenscreen technology really so primitive in 1996?
Although I had no idea that so many miniatures were used. Have you watched any of the behind the scenes stuff yet? It's really interesting. It's amazing how so many of the effects are seamless, but others stick out like an erection.
