Yep, another stunning 5-4 ruling, with the infamously smug victim of the "high-tech lynching" prominently among the saintly five, voting to discount race as a factor in public school placements (Seattle and Jefferson County, Ky). I loved hearing the dissent, vocal and vehement: this ruling basically suggests that for years white students were unfairly denied admission to predominately black schools as often as the reverse.

This isn't a sexy story, but it has far-reaching ramifications. No child left behind?

The Associated Press reports: "The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected school assignment plans that take account of students' race in two major public school districts. The decisions could imperil similar plans nationwide."
