why sarah palin?

she killed the "bridge to nowhere."
she quit a governor appointed position as the ethics commissioner of the alaska oil and gas commission over what she termed "a lack of ethics" on the part of the state's gop leaders at that time thereby going against both her own party and "big oil".
she is staunchly pro-life to appease the evenagelicals.
she's freakin' hot.
she is a lifetime member of the nra.
she is as regular joe as mccain and cindy are leona helmsley just listen to her talk.
the dems cannot go after her on experience without it coming back on them and bammy.
vetoed legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to gay state employees and their partners.
she's all about drilling (save the comments you sexist pigs!).
her basketball experience will draw sportsfans (ok, that's just for fun).
her husband is an eskimo. no really.

She's a "Sash Queen"

"As a young woman Palin participated in beauty pageants. She was a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant and won the Miss Wasilla contest in 1984. She was named "Miss Congeniality" in the Wasilla pageant."
Hmm...any bets on how long it takes those pageant pics to hit the Internet?

re: why sarah palin?#3
Posted: 8/29/08 at 11:57amyou may not agree with the rest, joe. but in the coming weeks you will nevertheless have to grudgingly acknowledge them.

I've always thought she was one of the better choices, but I thought her stock went down a few weeks ago when she praised Obama's energy plan. I think the expectation was to capitalize on lingering dissent among Clinton supporters after the Dem convention, however the convention seems to have been far more successful than anyone could have imagined.
Her involvement in a current abuse of power investigation could be a problem.

Think I'll get that long? She's got two ethics charges against her already including one that's generated a special prosecutor by unanimous vote of the Legislative Council.
Oh and I missed the last one- I agree her husband is an Eskimo. I am hoping that one gets on the campaign sign: "Sarah Palin! Married to an Eskimo!"

this does give joltin' joe a plethura of oportunities to display his golden tongue.
anybody wanna bet on him making a sexist comment? wait, let me revise that. anybody want to bet on how many sexist comments he makes?
after all it was just a day ago that he was telling a soldier that if he had the soldier's hair, "he wouldn't be screwing around with this job."
oh that joe

Lemme be brutally honest here.
If I were a Republican, I'd pick her over McCain any day at the top of ticket. I remember reading last year in a right-wing article that she was being primed as the "anti-Hillary" offering. But, she soon quelched the rumours with her announcement that she was in the family way.
Call me a crazy Libertarian but I still believe that the GOP will send the first woman to the White House as POTUS. Not this year, but 4 years out after Obama's base turns on him for being more conservative than most ever imagined.
Obama is nobody's fool. He knows that history will acknowledge him as one of the worst presidents in recent history (after Carter and Dubya) if he tries to usher in the New Deal Part Deux. There were so-called Reagan Democrats once. Obama has to create a swath of Obama Republicans which will prove even more daunting by McCain adding Palin to the ticket.
I still support O, but I ain't down with being part of the United Socialist States of America.

I dunno Papa- those ethics charges sound pretty meaty to me0 granted I knew NOTHING about the lady when I woke up this morning. But, pre-VP coverage in the Alaska papers sound pretty bad: One case says she had the state re-write the job qualifications so an old pal could get a job he hadn't qualified for and the other said she fired a guy cause he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law who had done her sister wrong.
In any case it makes it that much harder to paint Obama as a Rezko hack next week.

I have to agree with papa here.
(agreeing that the choice makes sense politically is not the same as saying I agree with the positions, some people here seem quick to forget that)
Palin brings a lot to the table for McCain, he picked an "outsider", a woman, a conservative who appeals to the base. It may not work, but as a "shoot the moon" pick it was a good one.
Do remember papa that it was I, over a month ago, who was already considering her. (Though I was convinced that the scandal was bigger than it was and thought she had no shot at getting picked.)
She always struck me as a strong pick for him internally though.
I still think the Dems will find plenty to attack though.
Joe, Joe Biden being the papa of the Dems really, really scares me in a debate with Palin- can you imagine the innuendo he might spew?

Her husband is hot, too.
Papa, were you saying that she essentially supports discrimination protection for gays? But she is against gay marriage?

Her oldest son is being deployed to Iraq in September.
Central Casting did an excellent job picking her.
re: why sarah palin?#18
Posted: 8/29/08 at 12:41pmFrom where I sit she seems a solid but not spectacular choice (but then, who would be?)

She one of those man/woman marriage people, but she killed a bill that would have prevented benefits to same sex partner. She in effect granted benefits to same sex partner, via her veto.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 12:46pmShe's appallingly out of her league. She was a mayor of a town of about 8000 people, and then Gov for a year and a half. This is startling by any standards. She didn't have an abortion, she has a kid in Iraq, and she touts Geraldine and Hillary. Those are are credentials.

Uh.... I got more excited when my cellphone was vibrating for Biden a few days ago.
She's certainly done a lot of great things her in life... but yikes it was like watching Sonny and Cher. AND NO OFFENSE TO CHER!
