This race has been emblematic of the hubris and lack of clarity that seems to be overrunning the Democratic congress and the Obama administration. The notion that this seat should have been willed onto another Kennedy was bad enough, but it seems that Coakley had not even considered the notion that she might have to campaign for the seat.
I'm glad it is a fight. My personal preference is that Coakley pulls it out, but I'm not convinced her losing wouldn't be an acceptable solution for the long run.
The Rahm Emmanuel comment is interesting to me for one reason: I have been watching the West Wing lately (for the first time) and I was just thinking of how much I dislike the idea of Rahm doing Leo McGarry's job.
It all makes me wonder, who is out there making sure Obama keeps some kind of perspective, pushing him to do the thing that he might have done 20 years ago? Is there anyone who is actually doing that?
I certainly hope that someone starts.

Brown (in my opinion) peaked last week. I could be wrong.
I am just glad I don't live in Mass and don't have to choose between either candidate. Brown reminds me of Romney - someone who says what he needs on any given day to get elected. And Coakley is no better.

Although, as always seems to be the case with politics for me, the objectionable and entitled candidate who won't actively work against everything I stand for, in the attempt to get elected, is still the one I really hope can pull it out.
Of course in the attempt to say anything to get elected (next time) most of the Democrats seem determined to say exactly the things that will get the other party elected instead. It is a systematic failure at this point.

It seems to me that when someone tells someone that they don't care about what they say...instead of just ignoring them, it's a sure sign that they care a whole lot. Funny how that works.

Internal polls that bad in a race with this dynamic is another serious step toward a loss for Coakley.
At this point I have to imagine some of the dynamic shift, like releasing an internal like that is an attempt to scare a few MA Democrats into actually showing up at the polls.
It is another attempt that I tend to think is coming too late in the game.
