I thought this thread was about Abba's friend. How cruel of you to turn it into another thread about Ellen mesmerized.
Do you have no respect?

Seriously, have you no shame WWPD?!?SP!
This thread is about praying for another of one of Abba's friends. Try and stay focused. And pray.

I tried to make it through the original post - couldn't do it.
And I haven't read anything that followed, so keep that in mind.
I honestly believe that there is ALWAYS someone somewhere better and/or worse off than you - whoever you are.
So, unless this post was made by a 4 year-old starving orphan in Africa with flies crawling all over their AIDS infested body, I'm a little put off by the subject title.
Whoever it's refering to I'm sure can use some good thoughts, and they have them - but they are NOT alone - and it sure as hell doesn't have to be presented in such a confrontational manner.

I dunno DG...I'm not a fan of boo-hoo threads and generally ignore them, but I got sucked into this one because of the transplant tie-in. And I wouldn't want to be trading places with that kid or his family. There's a valid argument to be made about this type of thread because you are right, there is always someone worse off and I'd hate to read through a whole board of them. But that being said, Abba was moved to post it and I don't think she did in in the spirit of dismissing anyone else's concerns.
And no, Sueleen, no human to dog transplants or vice versa. But I wouldn't bet the bank against genetically altered pigs.

iflit - I agree with you completely.
My response was basically to the thread title, to which I reply, "Yes, and we ALL do - because it's the life WE have to live."
The specifics of this case are inarguable - I certainly couldn't cope.
I just responded to the approach - and should have kept my big mouth shut.

Let me be clear, I in no way feel that Abba's intentions were anything but sincere. I know she has been through a lot and is very active in such charities and support groups.
My problem was with the "mother" who seems to be sensationalizing her child's illness to garner sympathy for herself. It just reeks of Munchausen by Internet to me. That is why I asked if you know this boy PERSONALLY, if you have MET him. If there is a web site for donations and a blog that chronicles his every trip to the doctor and every "good day" where he was able to "sit up and enjoy the Sox game with his brothers, JimmyJohn and RonnyRoy like they used to do before God struck him down...It is days like this that make it all worth the pain..."
Call me a cynic, but I have been called much worse.

No offense, DG, but you're not saying anything new in the the thread. The whole thread is about what you're talking about. And I agree with you. I don't know why we have to quantify who has got it worse.
And iflit, I just can't agree with you when you say "I don't think she did in in the spirit of dismissing anyone else's concerns." That is exactly what she did.

For the record, I don't "think that MY life is tough!" It's soft and cushy like Rhonda's underbelly.

Now I have, and see what you mean.

I know, goofy, I just didn't think you needed to apologize. :)
This thread reminds me of how people will get on here when they have no room left in their argument (or they don't agree with you) and they'll pull out the "there are more important things going on in the world" card. Yes, yes, that's true, but it's counterproductive and unhappy (and something that seems appropriate for a cult) to expect someone to accept that just because it's worse for someone else out there that whatever your situation is loses validity. There's always someone out there who has it worse.
If the thread was titled, "I thought MY life was bad," I wouldn't have an issue. As it is, the title not only implies that everyone else should just shut up because of JimmyJoe, but that the original poster is somehow above reproach.
People on this board do all sorts of things for others - even things more useful than praying, if you can believe that. Just because someone posts about whatever their latest cause is doesn't give them sort of moral high ground.
