Hm- Guess they should consider replacing it with "Cats". You don't even have to speak English to be able to enjoy that show. The word "Phantom" must just be too frightening for someone who spends all day in casinos and strip clubs.

Maybe it's time to cast a well known 10:00 o'clock Phantom.

"Mentally challenging"?
Hahaha...I had to go back and find where that was. What an awful way to word whatever it was they were trying to say.
In regards to the show not doing well...hey, if the fact that the 10 p.m. shows do 75% is their biggest problem, I don't see how this show is tanking. From here in New York it doesn't seem to be making a splash, and I'm sure hype is indeed waning in Vegas, but it looks to me like the show is doing healthy business. To the crowd who likes writing obituaries for ALW productions before they open, I say your time will come...but Phantom isn't crashing and burning.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 11:38pmMost people dont realize this, but these are the facts: Las Vegas Broadway show houses are much larger than their New York counterparts. Avenue Q sold more seats nightly than the show does on Broadway. It would have filled a Broadway house, but not it's LV house. Same goes for Phantom.....

Maybe if they lowered the price more people would go....
VIP seats - $150
Orchestra & Mezzanine - $125
Mid-Mezzanine - $100
Rear Mezzanine - $75
(plus $7 a ticket service charge)
That makes the cheapest ticket $82 each.

France: Le Roi Lion, Cabaret
Germany: Der Konig der Lowen
Holland: Tarzan & Les Mis

Posted: 8/26/06 at 1:16amI think what they mean by mentally challenging is that I dont think folks in Vegas want to follow a linear story at 10p at night in a city full of exotic nightlife. The late shows that do well are acrobats, dancers and strippers. By 10p, people want to check out mentally, have a drink and watch mindless "tricks." Even Celine, Barry, Elton and others go on by 8 or 830, so when the show lets out people still have nightlife to enjoy. I just think mentally and phyically 10p is too late to sit down to a full musical. Honestly,it cant be a great feeling for the actors either. It's damn late for a trained, professional dancer or singer who is trying to engage in a certain level of self-care. Last time I was there, Avenue Q was playing at 1030p and people were not feeling that at all.

i think BettyBoy brought up a great point- that is way too late for the actors and the audience to enjoy it, and get into it
and wow, those are incredibly expensive tickets! $82 for the cheapest ticket? wow, and i thought Broadway tickets could be expensive...

>>"Mentally challenging"?
Maybe because--gasp--there's opera in the title.

I think it's the "Ph."
That's too challenging.
Spell it with an "F" and the big, fat, stupid, lazy Vegas people will come...
"Fantam"
OR...
Give it that Cirque du OyVegas touch, and just call it...

I have to say, that I saw the late show of Avenue Q (before they cut it down) and my wagon was dragging. About midnight I just felt incredibly tired and was definitely wanting my bed. The 2nd Act was a bit of a chore because of it.
I learned to see an earlier show when there's a plot of any kind, especially when paying $100 - 150 a ticket.
