I saw the Matinee today and Audra was brilliant. As much as I adored her before, she really suprised me. She's become such a strong actor, and of course that voice is as amazing as it always was. Really, the whole show was a joy. I can see a little of what people said about actors trying to upstage each other (a few of the younger ensemble) but I think part if it is that they're playing too broad for such a small space. I'm so very sad I can't see it again, but at least I had great seats (4th row dead center, suckers:)

Well, I last saw the show on July 15th because, originally, that date was the announced closing date before it was given a 2-week extension. I didn't get seats for tomorrow since I'm working, but I'm very sad to see this show close. I've followed Audra McDonald's career since she played Carrie in the 1994 revival of CAROUSEL at the Vivian Beaumont, and her talent is tremendous -- just when I thought she couldn't surpass her performance with her current role, she does just that with her next role! Question: has this production of 110 IN THE SHADE been preserved for PBS broadcast like COMPANY? This production was extraordinary.

I haven't heard anything about it, so I don't think so but I so WISH it would. Audra brings me to tears. I was crying so much it was ridiculous.

Yeah. I don't even think I'm gonna bother with much make-up tomorrow. It's all going to get cried off between 110 and Beauty.

Awww, it's the day. The day of show death.

Buffyactsing, I was there today too, and it was brilliant. I probably saw you, I was a few rows in front of you in a splash seat. It seems like Audra can't get better, yet somehow she does. I honestly can't get enough of Kazee's Starbuck, and Steggart's Jimmy. They make me smile...or rather, made me smile.

Best of luck to the cast for their last show!

Saw it tonight for the second and last time...it was phenonanal(spelled wrong but it is 2am) My seats were great 2nd row center in the front mezz....I loved seeing the production from there...everyone was great...my exstudents loved it...they were crying their eyes out and they kept telling me that Steve Kazee is hot....stage door was great...my student told Chris Butler(Noah) that they wanted to tell him off after the first act and he said yeah I am a bit of a jerk but it is great to get all that anomosity out for 2 hours and be calm the rest of the day...and then Steve Kazee came out and they went a litle shy until they asked for a picture and he went to fix his hair and one of them said its ok your hair is still sexy, which he bluhed..he talked to them for a little which they went crazy about...then Lonny Price walked out and I am so happy I got him to sign my playbill....then when Audra came out some of the cast of The Color Purple came over to see her...they said when they get out after a show they always come over to see if she is at the stage door and this was the first time they saw her actually there so they had to seize the moment and talk to her, it was so cute.....I am going to miss this show and I am glad I got to see it twice after obsessing about the cast recording....This cast was so talented...I can't wait to see what they do next

The show is great! Sad to see it go but Audra's off to LA. She already has been filming the Grey's spinoff for the past two weeks. I wish I was seeing it tomorrow but I saw the matinee and then saw Beauty's last public show. Never thought I would cry at Beauty but... def did, a couple times! It's always sad when such great shows end.

I saw 110 in the Shade last night. After seeing two other shows on my "Broadway weekend" which disappointed me, including one that has been a favorite since I was pretty young, I was extremely grateful for the heartful, emotional, well sung performance by everyone in the cast. I've never seen Audra live and I now get why virtually everyone thinks she is like the second coming. It was easily one of the three best performances I have seen (and I have seen alot)- not just vocally but digging into the character. The crowd was extremely responsive and for good reason. It was a real performance, not affected, and I appreciated that.

I am very sad I did not get to see this earlier in the run so I could see it a few more times.

violet, thanks for the detailed review! I'll bet that the stage door will be crazy today too.

"It was a real performance, not affected"

That's a great way of describing Audra's performance, as well as the rest of the cast.

One more performance left!! re: 110 in the Shade closing this weekend!

I saw the show last night and I was surpised at how much I adored it! I really, really loved the cast and even though I was a fan of Audra's before, I'm now a huge fan! She was fantastic.

It really was wonderful! And I'm surprised it's not a show that's used for high school musicals, it seems perfect for school production!

And Lizzie has now become a dream role of mine.

I saw this show last night... and Audra was brilliant, but the show itself? Kind of slow and boring. Did anyone else feel this way?

But Audra [and John] were both great! It was amazing to see Audra perform in person.

It's definitely not one of those fast-paced, edge of your seat sort of musical - after all,it premiered in the 1960's.

But the message and the story remains timeless, and so many times in the musical, I felt it resonate in me. The amazing talent doesn't hurt either.

The last show should be ending in an hour or so!!

well I saw the sunday mat. two weeks ago and DIRECTLY after the show (after being nice enough to sign for about ten seconds even with assistants and others rushing her into the car) to get on a plane for LA over her day off. I'm guessing she's getting as much shooting in as possible in that day and a half. Crazy if it's true and one more reason to be in awe.
