Just for the posterity of the thread record on the show, I decided to post the link to the "1776 cast meets the press" day
One thing I love is the obvious enthusiasm of the cast members and how fun they made this day :)
Counting down the days!
(having some difficulty with the link, sorry...)

Posted: 4/13/09 at 2:39pmHow is the rush tickets program for Paper Mill? Is it hard to get ? My friend and I plan to try our luck at the box office for the rush tickets. How early should we be there?
re: 1776#54
Posted: 4/13/09 at 3:20pmrush is 20 dollars and you can go anytime the day of the show. I usually go around 7ish and get mid orchestra. Its not hard to get a seat at all.
re: 1776#55
Posted: 4/13/09 at 3:26pmRush is not hard at all. I live about 20 minutes away so I see most shows they have and have never had trouble. I've always gotten seats in the orchestra, usually on the right side, but an aisle seat, but any seat in the theater is pretty good.

re: 1776#57
Posted: 4/13/09 at 3:50pmI think its one per student ID. Maybe you can get two but I am not 100% sure.

I'm going Thursday-
My husband has seen it and loved it.
I was glad to hear Bob Cuccioli was in the cast.
re: 1776#59
Posted: 4/17/09 at 12:05pmI saw this on Thursday and loved it. James Barbour's "Molasses to Rum" was brilliant.
re: 1776#60
Posted: 4/17/09 at 12:20pmCasting an African American as the courier is brilliant. The interactions with Adams in the second act are chilling. His "Momma Look Sharp" is heartbreaking.

it was just OK for me.
The first act was a bit long- but the show was well done, I enjoyed it.
Great cast, it was funny & entertaining.

I'm considering trying the student rush, but I'm not sure because it's really far and it will cost me a lot to travel, even though the rush tickets are cheap. Does anyone know any more details about their rush? their website doesn't post much and the last thread I could find on the rush was old. Oh and also, their website says people over 18 have to show proof of age or a college ID. Does this mean that there's an age limit for college students? And I would also interpret this to mean any students can get the student discount, not just college students? I'm sorry if these are dumb questions, but I've never been there before. I did find on their website that tickets are one per ID though(and it has to have a date on it), for the people who were asking.

Posted: 4/17/09 at 10:54pmThere is not an age limit I believe. I am 25 and still recieve the student discount.

I saw tonight's performance, and I loved it. There is so much to praise about this production. John Schuck is terrific as Ben Franklin, Robert Cuccioli is outstanding as Dickinson, and Barbour's Molasses To Rum was a highlight. The guy who played the courier was amazing in 'Hey Mama' (his name escapes me).
Unfortunately, I can say the same about Don Stephenson as Adams. I should confess that, for me, William Daniels' performance is as iconic as Merman, Andrews, etc. So, he had a high bar to reach for me. Sadly, he didn't come close. Having said that, though, there is still so much to rave about in this production that I highly recommend it.

Posted: 4/18/09 at 1:08amI'm very excited to see this production. It is such a beautiful and moving musical. Hopefully Don will grow over time. It's no easy role. How were the women? Thanks!

Regarding Stephenson, I found his Adams to be a weak, petulant ninny. Adams is supposed to be obnoxious and disliked, but he also needs to be intelligent and strong. That makes his scenes with Abigail work, because he only shows his vulnerabilities to her. Since his Adams was so weak all the time, the scenes with Abigail fell a little flat, since there was no contrast in him.
The ladies both did well, though Lauren Kennedy seemed to be searching for the right places to breathe in her number.

Posted: 4/18/09 at 1:34pmDoes anyone know when the run will end? I just got my tax refund and am thinking of using part of the money for a roadrip to NJ to see the show. One of the guys I worked with last summer is in the cast (although I have no idea what part he's playing).

Thanks! :)
That gives me more than enough time to plan a trip.

Posted: 4/19/09 at 9:53amDon Stephenson is amazing in this role!! He is funny, passionate... he carries the whole production on his back! Why do you think this production is so terrific? All the other characters have such an easy job compared to Adams. They just have to do their scenes and move on... Dpn has to be the motor for the whole show. Not to mention the fact that William Daniels was terrible as Adams, completely wooden throughout the movie, showing no passion at ALL! I don't know what you saw up there on the stage, but I think you didn't appreciate what Stephenson is doing, and that STINKS!!

Posted: 4/19/09 at 10:37amIf you hold the opinion that William Daniels was "terrible," you will probably not find many sympathizers on this thread. I am glad you liked Stephenson - i haven't seen this production, and cannot comment - but Daniels was remarkably apt in the role of Adams. You do not have to run down other performers in order to make your point. Especially in what appears to be your first post.

Posted: 4/19/09 at 12:13pmI am going to the opening tonight. I haven't seen the show since the revival in the late 90's. While not a favourite show of mine I am very excited to see this production! Really ah-mazing cast and it looks like a beautiful production as well. I will try and post my thoughts on it tomorrow.
