And If I remember correctly, TLM is getting a revamp by a regional theatre, so YES they do let others do their shows. Maybe not on Broadway cause TLM and BATB are too recent for revivals, but your point fails.

As some others have mentioned, Disney shows and big hits like Phantom or Mamma Mia most definitely have a place on Broadway. For many young people, they are the gateway drugs that open their eyes to the magical world of the theater.
Seeing Wicked over seven years ago changed my life, and I would not be posting here if it weren't for that juggernaut. Had my first show been a piece like Passion, I doubt it would have made as big of an impact on me at the time. Personally, it took me a while to develop a palette for more intellectually-stimulating works, but I never would have learned to appreciate them without the help of the mindless fluff. I imagine many other theater fans my age feel the same way.

"Why doesn't Disney license out their shows to be produced on Broadway to someone else?"
Cameron Mackintosh produces revivals of his own shows.

I never did get to see Tarzan on stage, though I love the cast recording! With that being said, from the videos I've seen of the Broadway production, it absolutely looked like a mess!
Though I think the show really does deserve a second chance, just with a better creative team.

Posted: 12/11/14 at 9:32pmI'm hoping, maybe in fifteen years or so, some enterprising off Broadway or London Fringe theatre will "rediscover" Beauty and the Beast or Tarzan or Little Mermaid and give them spins that have nothing to do with the films they are based on except the book and lyrics. New original costumes and stagings. New orchestrations. New casting ideas. I hope the same thing happens to Shrek.
