Great article.
Wow, thanks for posting this article. I really forget about Broadway being a business until I read things like this. At least now I understand why Company didn't want have the entire cast.

great article..thanks for posting the link. Nice to know that some shows are still going all out...but wow, that's expensive for 4 or 5 mins.
I'll be interested in seeing what ACL is planning on doing after reading this...
Great article for the insight, but the writing was pretty poor. Also whats up with all the quotation marks?

Thanks for the link. The A CHORUS LINE performance sounds exciting.
So ACL will do the opening. Cool.

This is Raul's second nomination, not his first...
"as an actor, I would wave my fee to perform on the Tonys"
Would Equity let you do that?

"You'd think that the producers of the TONYS would pay for the shows to come and perform on their show! "
You sure would. Normally, you pay the talent to perform, not the other way around. Those are some hefty fees too.
Sidenote, according to the tony website, there are supposed to be some "surprise" performances. Perhaps Blonde and Love Musik are the surprises, perhaps they got their fee money together.

"Check back for news about other performances as we get closer to June 10—and get ready for last-minute surprises!"
``Nobody has to be on the telecast,' said Elizabeth McCann, the managing producer of Tony Award Productions. ``They're invited.'
That is a good way to boost ratings.

Umm unless the link leads to a different article than the one Canada's Globe and Mail covered they said they were doing the "famous finale, One."
I wish they were doing the opening...

It's terrible when I think back to performances in the past that that's all 200,000 dollars gets you. Pretty sad.

It's sad that the ATW doesn't realize that it's these performances people tune in to watch. The average American wouldn't know who most of these nominees are but would want to be entertained. Sure, even if it wasn't "average" Americans they were targeting, the upscale demographic still wouldn't tune in if there weren't that many performances on the show.
