Who do you think will get it?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Chita all the way. Then they don't have to feel obligated to nominate her in the Best Leading Actress or Best Musical categories.

sondheim would hate getting this award. he's still going and does wants people to look towards the future, not at his past.

wasserstein and wilson seem like logical choices. while chita should get it one year, this isn't her year, the other two are stronger candidates at this point in time.

side note, i forget, was the dancer's life deemed a special event or not? i was extremely surprised bridge + tunnel was.

A Dancer's Life was deemed a musical, unfortunately.

Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel are only in their 30's. I don't think they should be getting a lifetime achivement award for quite a while.

I think Bobby's comment was meant as sarcasm, at least that's how I took it.

Here's a few I'd like to see get it:

Carol Channing
Chita Rivera
Harold Prince (don't care that he has a million competitive awards already, he still deserves this one)
Stephen Sondheim (don't care that he's still working, he deserves this one)
Jerry Herman
Angela Lansbury
Betty Comden
John Kander
Elaine Stritch
Barbara Cook

I think the lifetime achivement award should go to Horton Foote, with 2 plays nominated for drama desk awards

Mike Nichols should definitely get one at some point down the line.

Has Neil Simon ever received one? I would like nominate him as well - but perhaps he would be in the same boat as Sondheim. He has 3 new plays in the works and would probably also like people to look ahead at his future endevors.

Didn't Prince get one about 3 yrs ago? I remember him exhorting the league/wing to "challenge the audience, they will come". Course they'd already voted for Millie by then but it's the thought...
