Posted: 11/7/06 at 7:13pmI'm not going to sink to some other people's level and make sarcastic remarks, but honestly, don't you think this is a very ailing horse? Obviously, this was a topic for a while after the Tony's, but seeing as Tony voters' choices don't make a lot of sense, The results of this show are not something that people take too seriously anymore.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015

Seriously?
Drowsy should have won best musical, even though it was one of my least favorites out of the four that were nominated.
Sutton or Patti should have won best actress.
Anyone by JLY should have won Best Actor, he played someone else, honestly?

Posted: 11/7/06 at 7:22pmI do agree about Drowsy and Sutton. Partially because Drowsy is the newest love of my life, and partially because Oprah is trying to steal my beloved Cadillac Palace Theater in Chicago to make a permanent home for The Color Purple.

I was happy with most of the winners. I was very, very happy that LaChanze won. I think she really deserved it, she is an amazing performer. I was happy that JLY won.
But I agree that DC should have won Best Musical.

Posted: 11/7/06 at 7:43pmI had mixed feelings about that evening. I was ecstatic when LaChanze won though! I was not too thrilled with leading actor in a musical or best musical . . .

I was am very content with the winners. I saw Jersey Boys, The Color Purple & The Drowsy Chaperone, all with original cast members. I found that LaChanze did deserve her award, since Mrs. Lupone already has aquired many awards.
I did not get to see John Lloyd Young perform, he was sick. However the role of Frankie Valli is incredible and intense. I support his win.
I did enjoy Jersey Boys much more than The Drowsy Chaperone. Both are very different, but I found that Jersey Boys is a stronger show, with a stronger story, an incredible score and a cast of perfection. The Drowsy Chaperone deserved it's best book & best score, however I found that Jersey Boys was overall the better musical.
Although I love Sweeney Todd, I do love The Pajama Game. I was very happy for it's win, since Sweeney Todd won many other awards that season.

Posted: 11/7/06 at 8:28pmI HATED this years winners. I do not believe in the "oh, he/she already has won before". So? This is about the BEST performance, not who deserves this award most. Patti and Michael should have won. I also thought Manoel or Jim Dale should have won instead of Christian Hoff. Beth Leavel deserved her win.

Drowsy Chaperone should have beat Jersey Boys.
Sutton should have beaten LaChanze.
Bob Martin should have won best actor.
Sweeney should have won best revival.

Posted: 11/7/06 at 8:50pmHmm... I disagree with Sutton. LaChanze's performance was really much more powerful than Sutton...
#16re: 2006 tony winners
Posted: 11/7/06 at 8:56pmI also was VERY disipointed by this years winners. The only one that really satisfied me was LaChanze. Manoel Feliciano or Jim Dale should have won in the featured category, Sweeney TOdd should have won revival, Drowsy or Color Purple should have won best musical.

Well if you think so, then...fine. But I disagree.
I didn't think last year was abominable, but there are certainly a few awards I would have given to different people:
-SWEENEY over PAJAMA GAME for Best Revival/Musical
-Patti LuPone over LaChanze for Best Actress/Musical
-Samuel Barnett over Ian McDiarmid for Best Featured Actor/Play
-Manoel Felciano over Christian Hoff for Best Featured Actor/Musica (though Hoff was fantastic as well)
-RABBIT HOLE over THE HISTORY BOYS for Best Scenic Design/Play
I also would have had SWEENEY beat JERSEY BOYS for best lighting, but they were strangely not even nominated.

Drowsy should have won best musical
Cerveris should have won best actor
Other than that, I was pretty pleased with the results, though I am kind of sad that Patti has not won a Tony since Evita...

Posted: 11/8/06 at 7:23ami thought sofia fields should have won featured.... it may be sophia
#22re: 2006 tony winners

i'm not the biggest fan of the show... but i thought the drowsy chapeone was gonna win best musical.
#24re: 2006 tony winners
Posted: 11/8/06 at 9:26amI think Sweeny should have won best revival and for Cervais and Patty but John Lloyd Young and LaChanze were good choices as well
