"Anyone by JLY should have won Best Actor, he played someone else, honestly?"
If I decipher this sentence correctly, then you beliave John Lloyd Young should not win because he portrayed a real person? Actually, portraying a real person is much more difficult to pull off than a fictional character. There are speech patterns, physical characteristics, dialects and well-known personas that must be portrayed honestly and accurately, especially with celebrities or public figures that are well-known to most of the adult population. John's performance in both acting AND singing (particularly with such a difficult and distinct vocal style) were flawless enough to convince virtually every critic. I would have found it surprising if he HADN'T won.
I agreed with most of the major categories. Especially Pajama Game's win. And I was thrilled for John Lloyd Young and LaChanze for both of their first Tony wins.

The only things I was disappointed with was The Pajama Game winning Best Revival over Sweeney and LaChanze getting Best Leading Actress over Patti. I was extremely happy about Christian getting Best Featured, Jersey Boys getting Best Musical, and John getting Best Leading.
I just want to ask, Why such negativity against John Lloyd Young? He deserved the Tony for all the hard work he put into the role of Frankie Valli. In all honesty, John has the most demanding role for a male on Broadway with the singing lead for 27 songs and a good amount of them in falsetto. I, mean sure Michael was great in Sweeney and Bob was hilarious in Drowsy(I didn't see the other ones, so I can't judge).
Who really didn't see Jersey Boys and John Lloyd Young winning the Tony? The only thing that I really didn't see happening was Christian getting Best Featured because I would've thought they would give it Jim Dale. If Christian didn't win it, then Manoel should've/

The only things I'll say are ones that have not been said yet:
Faith Healer should have won Best Revival of a Play and Ralph Fiennes should have won Best Actor. Before you ask, I did not see The History Boys, but I do plan on seeing the movie.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 4:49pmI was pretty happy with most of the results. Having seen Jersey Boys (3 times, twice with JLY) and The Drowsy Chaperone, I definitely think JLY deserved it over Bob Martin and while I loved The Drowsy Chaperone, I enjoyed Jersey Boys so much more. I screamed when Christian won and knew the second I walked out of The Drowsy Chaperone that Beth Leavel would take the Tony. I was kind of shocked The Pajama Game beat out Sweeney Todd.

I was pretty happy, but I cannot say "Oh, Drowsy should've won" because I ddin't see Jersey Boys. I loved Drowsy, a lot, and I think the idea is certainly more original, but, hey, I haven't seen John Lloyd Young do anything, so I cannot say if he should have won best actor. But a bunch of people do think so. But if I'm allowed to be biased without actually seeing it, Drowsy should have won. psh.
And to tell you the truth, I laughed at the badness of "it's your wedding day" but I haven't seen that either.
Nor did I see Sweeney. But I was happy that The Pajama Game won, even though Sweeney was probably one of the best shows that season.
Shame they both had to close.

I agree with Munk.
I also don't like that a juke-box musical won Best Musical.

-Shocked? I was devestated! I cried! I may start crying again now...
.. And Michaels loss made me want to drive to Radio City and give him a hug.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 8:20pmI am not a fan of the juke-box musical, but I really don't think of Jersey Boys as one. In my mind, jukebox musicals weave existing songs into an unrelated plot. Mamma Mia had nothing to do with Abba, Movin Out had nothing to do with Billy Joel, etc. WIth Jersey Boys its the story of the Four Seasons so you have to have their songs. It's more like a VH1 behind the music and should not be lumped into the same category as Movin Out, Mamma Mia, All Shook Up and Good Vibrations.

Well, according to the Tony performances, The Pajama Games DEFINITELY deserves the Tony. In my opinion, Sweeney's TONY performance was CRAP: You can't cut all Sondheim's songs into pieces and put them into a medley. The whole performance was so random, badly adapted, very choppy and had no sense at all, just as worse as the Tony performance of Into the Woods Revival several years ago. I didn't say Sweeney was bad (actually I love it!), but again the Tony performance was disappointed! They should only do one scene from the show instead of doing a medley!
If the Best Musical is judged according to the performances IN the Tony Awards, The Pajama Game was FAR BETTER, though Harry Connick Jr. CAN'T ACT!
