The Little Mermaid should do Poor Unfortunate Souls if Sherrie is nominated, but should probably do Under the Sea otherwise. I don't see this getting nominated anyway.
Xanadu - if Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa get nominated I would absolutely love Evil Woman to be performed, but that seems unlikely. They should perform "Xanadu" to show off the entire company.
Young Frankenstein - Please don't Touch me would be a hoot, but I think they should do "Transylvania Mania" or "Puttin' on the Ritz"
Grease - "You're the One that I Want" ..... I guess....
Gypsy: "Rose's Turn" or "Everything's coming up Roses"
South Pacific: Haven't seen the production yet... I guess it depends on who is nominated. If Kelli is they should do one of Nellie's songs ("Honey Bun" or "A Cock-eyed Optimist") if Paulo is nominated perhaps "Some Enchanted Evening" or "This Nearly Was Mine." If both are they should do a production number ("There's nothing like a Dame?" or)
Sunday in the Park With George: " Sunday" but again it depends on who is nominated. "It's Hot Up Here" would be fun!

A CATERED AFFAIR
Don't know the show. Although I think a medley might be nice, have Harvey explain the plot in character, and have glimpses of the songs, I think that could really sell tickets as long as they hit the romantic angle.
CRY-BABY
Don't know the show.
IN THE HEIGHTS
The opening number looks to be a big fun expression of the show.
THE LITTLE MERMAID
One of Sherrie's songs PLEASE! Poor Unfortunate Souls?!!?! Although, they may just go with Under the Sea or Part of Your World. Although, if Sherrie is nominated, who knows?
PASSING STRANGE
Don't know the show.
XANADU
Xanadu would probably sell a good number of tickets. I'd love Evil Woman, but I'm not sure that would be best.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
I think Roll In Ze Hay or Please Don't Touch Me would be good. Both are movie based and some of the shows stronger numbers. Or Transylvania Mania with Mulally wedged in there.
GREASE
You're The One That I Want. Duh.
GYPSY
One of the rose numbers, or Together if everyone gets nominated.
SOUTH PACIFIC
Medley?
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
Sunday or Putting It Together. But everyone seems to think it will be Sunday. Not sure which would sell more tickets.
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

I think In the Heights will either do all of 96,000, or a medley of songs (kind of like what they do with the commercial).
I think Passing Strange will probably do a part of Keys and then go into Amersterdamn and end it with that call and response part of the song(YEAH, IT'S ALL RIGHT!)
Little Mermaid will probably perform UNDER THE SEA
and finally I think Xanadu will perform XANADU!

But can you say "tits" on primetime TV? :)

A CATERED AFFAIR
Don't know the show, so no clue.
CRY-BABY
Don't know that one either.
IN THE HEIGHTS
They should probably do the opening number "En Washington Heights" because it introduces us to the characters.
THE LITTLE MERMAID
Under the Sea without even the shadow of a doubt.
PASSING STRANGE
How about "Welcome to Amsterdam"?
XANADU
"Xanadu" or "Magic" or "All Over The World" or "I'm Alive".
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
"Transylvania Mania" or "Puttin' On the Ritz"
GREASE
either "You're the One that I want," "Grease," "Summer Nights," or the curtain call medley at the end
GYPSY
"Together"
SOUTH PACIFIC
"There is Nothing Like a Dame" or "a Wonderful Guy" or "Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" or a medley!
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
"Sunday" or "Putting it Together"

"GYPSY

Together would be fun! Don't they always do the rose numbers at the Tonys? Although, Patti's characterization in both rose numbers would be remarkable to have on film.
And whoever said "It's Hot Up Here" for Sunday is right about that.

Xanadu could do a medley with I'm Alive/All Around the World/Magic/Xanadu.
In the Heights could do the opening number but it's pretty long.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 7:06pmI think for SUNDAY they will really want to showcase Daniel and Jenna. That's why I think MOVE ON would be perfect. A 15 minute number like PUTTING IT TOGETHER truncated to 3 minutes would be horrific to watch.

The only song strong enough from A Catered Affair would be Tom's 11 o'clock number, but it gives everything away.
He's the only one that stands out.

Do you think it's possible that they might do a tribute to RENT?
I would enjoy that. :)

Posted: 3/5/08 at 9:39pmI hope to god Robin De Jesus gets a nom, because I want In the Heights to do 96,000 and not the opening number.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 10:31pmAs far as YF goes, we'll probably see Transylvania Mania since that features most of the cast. Personally, I would prefer Together Again or Putting on the Ritz

That is, assuming YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN gets nominated for Best Muzikal.
Which isn't likely.

I have a feeling IN THE HEIGHTS will do a medley, which should be fantastic.
PASSING STRANGE should definitely do 'Amsterdam'..Makes Berkeley look like the Bible belt.
I like how Fantasia sung 'I'm Here' at last year's Tony Awards, even though TCP was nominated the year before. I can't think of anything, but I wouldn't mind seeing a song/performance for a show that was previously nominated (or not).

Posted: 3/6/08 at 10:35amQuestion. If the networks requested that un-nominated musicals be allowed to do a number, does that automatically mean that the whoever makes those decisions will acquiesce to the networks recommendation? I think it would set an unfortunate precedent. When the Academy Awards are given out, only the nominated films are given a slot. I sense that if they went haywire and let EVERYONE do a number, it would make for tedious viewing and the ratings would drop even more.

Mermaid: They'd be stupid not to do Part of Your World - at least a portion of it. I'm guessing they'll do a medley. Honestly I would love to see them do "One Step Closer" but that won't happen in a million years. My guess is a good old medley of new and old songs: Good Times Back, Under The Sea, Part of That World, and a rousing choral finale.
Gypsy: Tricky. Ordinarily I'd say "Roses Turn" except 1.) They already did it at the Tony's a few years ago and 2.) One of the huge strengths of this show is the brilliance of the three leads together. I wouldn't be suprised if they pulled out "Together Wherever We Go" - thought that's not the best song. Maybe "Everything's Coming Up Roses"
Sunday: I agree, probably "Move On" with a bit of "Sunday" thrown in.
Xanadu: Probably a medley as well, with an emphasis on "Evil Woman" please let Mary Testa get nominated!
Frankenstein: They'd be stupid not to do "Puttin' on the RItz"
Grease" "You're the One That I Want" or "Summer Nights"
South Pacific: Medley
They other shows I don't know yet

South Pacific: There's Nothing Like a Dame/Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair medley
Gypsy: Together Wherever We Go or Everything's Coming Up Roses
In the Heights: Opener going into Abuela's song
Mermaid: Won't be nominated but if they get a slot-I'd like to see Part of Your World/Poor Unfortunate Souls medley
Sunday: Sunday in the Park With George opener
Young Frankenstein: Puttin' on the Ritz-it won't be nominated but if they perform that's what they should do
Grease-Summer Nights
Xanadu: Medley of Evil Woman (great scene) and Xanadu
Don't know the others yet.
