2018 Tony Committee Meeting, Round 2: Decisions on ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, THE BAND'S VISIT, METEOR SHOWER, and More

No im saying I dont think its a musical. And i dont think it should be nominated as such. And what criteria does the tony committee base this classification on. I mean there are shows i dont like but they are still musicals. My love or dislike of a show is not the question. Clearly the simple question asked was too much for some here.

all_that_jazz, I'm really not trying to be rude, but how does a show with an original score of 17 full songs not come across as a musical to you? I'm happy to further discuss whether the show is successful in using those songs to develop character and further plot, but on a dictionary definition level, how is that not a musical to you?

GeorgeandDot said: "What is it if it isn't a musical? Did you actually even see it because it's very clearly and indisputably a musical."

Thats the whole point of my post...TO ME IT SEEMS A PLAY WITH MUSIC. Why well emphasis in telling the story is placed on spoken word and not songs. The spoken dialogue of which there is the majority conveys what story there is. I dont feel the emphasis in the story telling is on the song. SOOOO. Again I wondered does the atony comittee have criteria or is simply putting "the musical" after the bands visit by the author or producer make it so. Doesnt matter what i think it is.

Just want to give an update on The Parisian Woman. I posted on the other board in a discussion about eligible plays how The Parisian Woman was omitted from eligibility discussions. I was directed to a press release on the tony site here: http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/news/articles/2018-01-25/2018-01-25_tony_awards_eligibility_for_2018_part_2.html that now lists the show. Seems like it was just an error in the original press release. The link in the OP here is still the old release omitting the show.
