should it be revived

I personally think Jefferson Mays would make a perfect  Henry Higgins.

Jefferson Mays HAS played Henry Higgins on Broadway...in Pygmalion!

(He was very good.)

I feel like we'll get a revival in the next few years. Maybe late 2017? Spring 2018?

Emma Watson said she has interest in doing theater and I think this would be a great vehicle for her. She's played roles that have resembled both sides of Eliza, and I'm hoping Beauty and the Beast will showcase that she can sing. Plus, she's in the right age range for the role and still will be for quite a few years more.

I've been wishing for a My Fair Lady revival for the longest time. Wasn't there a rumor that Colin Firth would star as Higgins in some sort of revival? I could see him nailing the role effortlessly.

Only if Julie gets to play mrs higgins

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. I would love a remake of the film version with Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Eliza. I would give anything for this.

Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

Since Julie Andrews is directing a new production in Sydney in 2016, I hope it will transfer in maybe 2017

Very strange response. I think they should do it at Lincoln Center and Bart should direct it.

of course this should be revived soon at lincoln center, and given the extraordinary revival treatments recently for

south pacific

king and I

Fiddler on the Roof(im hoping)

My Fair Lady would have to be on the short list for lincoln center

Im curious.  some of the treatment of eliza and attitudes toward women in general are very outdated.

do you think a revival will update or scrub this much?

Ive seen recent regional productions where Eliza stands up to higgins much more at the end, and even a version where he pretty much submits to her at the end.....

If a revival were to get off the ground, I'd be rooting for Laura Benanti as Eliza.

agreed.

or an unknown actress to be discovered in the way that Julie Andrews was discovered when Lerner and Lowe took a chance on her

Agreed. My top picks are Laura Benanti or Sierra Boggess. And this revival needs to happen as soon as they're done with their current projects.

Lauren Worsham for Eliza.

I like your imperturbable perspicacity.
