$107 is the only price for non-premium seats to single performances.
So what's the deal? Giant helicopter? Rotating barricades? Ship that crashes into an iceberg so the stage tilts?

Posted: 2/21/09 at 7:31pmWell what did you expect? The marathons of Coast of Utopia were $300 or $195, so there was no discount given. In this case seeing a show individually is $107, so buying a marathon ticket actually saves you $66.

Posted: 2/21/09 at 10:06pmI think the whole idea of putting this on late this season is really dumb. First, we're gonna be saturated with non-musical offerings by the time it opens -- it should have opened earlier in this season or in the early part of next season; second, the idea of a whole day for the marathon is more than your "average" theatregoer relishes; third, where was the crying need for an Ayckborne (misspelled, I know) revival in the first place?; fourth, not only is the season saturated with non-musical offerings but we have a slew of non-musical revivals already; and fifth, the economy is prohibitive for an iffy proposition like this for now. I wouldn't object to seeing it per se, just not right now.

I'm interested in seeing it too, but sometimes I wonder about Broadway producers. I mean, did we learn nothing from the month or two after the stagehands strike? A dozen plays opening on Broadway within a month or two of each other will cannibalize each other until only one or two remain. It's a bad proposition for everybody, unless your show is called August: Osage County.
I realize the situation is a bit different now because there are more limited runs than there were this time last year, but still.

Posted: 2/21/09 at 11:57pmGuess I'd better start up. I just wish I knew if I'd like it or not (jeez, I sound like a tourist). But that is a lot of money to spend on a whim. I mean, if I hate the first play, I still have two more to sit through.

>I think the whole idea of putting this on late this season is really dumb.<
And here are some reasons why it is really smart.
1. In a spring season loaded with dramas, it's one of the few outright comedies. Yes, Godot and Exit the King are absurdist and have a few laughs, but let's face it, Neil Simon, they're not.
2. By its very structure, it stands out from the rest of the plays because it's a trilogy.
3. Unlike other plays, it also has the virtue of the repeat business factor. Since the plays are on a rotating schedule, audiences have a reason to want to return to see the other two plays.
4. It's one of the few shows this spring that has been seen and blessed by the London critics, which usually results in respect from their New York counterparts.
5. It could win an Olivier or two next month, which would position it well for NY Award season.
6. Regarding the Ayckbourn factor, his plays have come over here and quite often have been ruined by American casts. This will be one of the few opportunities to see an acclaimed British cast doing the material justice.
Like all of the rest of the plays this season, I expect that there will very likely be discounts, even though as Frogs Fan points out, the $255 price for the Trilogy is $66 cheaper than buying three full price tickets to the individual plays, so it's not like it's a gouging.

scaryclowns2232, for pricing info on telecharge click on the "getting tickets" link on the left of the page.
And to add in more information: The single ticket price for weekdays is $107, and $112 for weekend (including Friday) performances, so now that trilogy pricing is actually saving you $81 bucks.

Posted: 2/22/09 at 3:14pmI saw one of the plays in London and had no interest in seeing the others. Whatever the critics said, the audience I saw it with was restless and unhappy. It wasn't funny. It was stale. And, surprisingly, not very well acted by its no-name cast. Think twice before you invest a chunk of change.

I saw the originals. From what I can recall, they were standard Broadway comedy fare.
In this economy, I think it will be dicey at best as far as succeeding. TDF all the way . If we do not like the first, we than have no committment for the rest.

"its no-name cast"
Not to a discerning British audience.
I'm still "pissed off" that I missed it.
