I feel like there has been a drought of cast albums... but tomorrow - South Pacific, Passing Strange, AND Adding Machine will all be recording!
yay???
I can't wait till South Pacific's is released!
Little Mermaid was pretty much the last original recording to be released... before that, Xanadu?... there haven't really been too many this season yet. I'm just excited and thought I'd share for anyone else that cared.

This brings up some questions:
Are Broadway cast recordings recorded in New York or Los Angeles?
Are they done in-studio or on-stage?
You say they are "being recorded tomorrow". Do you mean the recording starts tomorrow, or do they do the entire recording in one day!!!
Just curious about how things are done over there.
South Pacific and Adding Machine will be going into a studio somewhere in NYC (usually completed in one day -- vocals at least)... Passing Strange will be recorded live at the theatre.
I will be purchasing all three of these the day they come out.
I couldn't be more excited...
We have a lot of great recordings coming our way.
(These three, plus A Catered Affair and In the Heights.)

Thanks for that quick reply! :)
Still waiting on a announcement for Gypsy.
I'm getting worried now.
I highly doubt GYPSY wouldn't be recorded in some capacity, especially after the reviews it got.
And I'm very excited for these recordings!

The official "Gypsy" recording announcement will be made this week. It will be recorded in NYC on May 5th and 6th. Time Life is the label. The first complete "Gypsy"
ever with 6 cut songs from the original 1959 Broadway production, newly recorded with Patti Lupone and the current Broadway cast.
Really, that's awesome. I can't wait to get all these recordings on my ipod!!!
Considering Kelli O'Hara was out of SOUTH PACIFIC Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, I wonder if she will come off OK recording the show tomorrow.
I don't mean to doubt you but as every week comes you say it is being announced the next week, I want it recorded but don't want to get false hope.
yes, if Kelli is still not feeling well, i hope the South Pacific recording is postponed...

What happened to The Glorious Ones? I know it was announced it was getting a recording, is that still the plan? And was Next to Normal getting recorded? Don't remember if that ever made an announcement.
I wonder if O'Hara missed this weekend to save her voice for the recording. Victoria Clark did the same for the Piazza recording.
There are several cd's with wonderful performers who were sick when they went into the studio. Chita was ill (and you can tell) for Bye Bye Birde though she got to record her London performance and sounds great. More recently, Betty Buckley was doing concerts and Elegies at the same time. Her vocal strain is evident on the recording; especially with Carolee Carmello on the same recording in superb voice.
Time Life is a very slow label. I've heard from very solid sources that this is happening. They've been shopping it around to other labels for months now. Many declined; Time Life only agreed because of the cut material (and I'm assuming the reprise Laurents cut will be back too).
The Glorious Ones was recorded.
Next to Normal was not.
I'm surprised that Sh-k-boom didn't pick up Next to Normal.
I cannot wait for The Glorious Ones. Should be out this summer, thought Jay always delays their discs.
I'm also chomping at the bit for Little Fish. It's in the can but no official release date yet.
Really no one else would take the recording, why?? It is a great classic show and I'm sure it would make a lot money.
There are 5 major Gypsy recordings in-print. Most labels didn't find another necessary. Now they turned it down before the Broadway raves, so Time Life got lucky, I'm sure many labels would take it now. And cast albums rarely make much money. While Gypsy will sell well at the theatre or online, the average Joe isn't going to buy it. I'd say they'd be lucky if they sold 25,000 units.
Well duh they should know Joe-schmo wont pick it up it, the Labels should know that. The theatre isn't that bug of a market.
You just answered your own question...

There is too much negativity on this subject. Time Life is not a slow label.
Too many people are "experts" on this site. I'm not going to name names, but this thread speaks for itself. I'm tired of reading these negative posts which are not helpful nor accurate. One person on this thread is always getting into these negative fights with other people on this site. I implore him to please stop. It's not helpful nor accurate. Took them a year plus for RIng of Fire and even longer for the yet-to-be-released Annie. Now I understand both had rights issue but the fact we don't even has a press release is another sign of their slowness.
