6 months later and it feels as if I just walked out of the theatre.

Before I even read your post, the title alone made me think of the same Show.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

Honestly, as soon as I saw this thread title, before I even opened it up, Sunday is the show that popped into my head.
For me, the part that I know I'll never forget was at the end of the show, when George turns around and everyone in the painting bows to him, the audience just burst out into cheers and applause, and Daniel Evans completely lost it. It was one of the most moving theatrical experiences I've ever had.

Agreed. This show was an incredble experience. It was touching and stunning.
The end of Act 2 was one of the most emotional times I've experienced in the theatre. I cherish it.

I did not have the pleasure of seeing Sunday in the Park with George. But I know the feeling you are talking about. It is one of the best feelings in the world. And actually, it is almost 6 months to the day when I took a trip to NYC and saw (among other things) August: Osage County and South Pacific. And it feels like I just left the theatre for both of those. Both were such life changing theatrical experiences. I live for shows like that.

Sunday was an absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing show. I miss it so much. I will never forget the sound of the entire audience gasping when the first brush stroke appeared on the blank canvas at the beginning of the show. Magical.

Yeah, I felt a tinge of sadness when I saw "Pal Joey" - and no, not because the show sucked, but because Sunday use to play there and it was my first time in Studio 54 so the carpet and the whole decor will forever remind me of seeing that beautiful show.

For my experience, at the end of act 2 once the canvas is white again George turns around and just...gasps. THATS the moment the audience lost it, if I remember correctly it got a standing ovation before the lights came up for curtain call.

At risk of sounding like an idiot...I didn't know much about the show until a fried fairly dragged me to see it on a trip we took to New York. I LOVED this show! It was probably the most incredible theater experience I have ever had. I was so sad they cancelled the tour, I would have loved to see it again.

April 19th @ 8:00pm. It was a Saturday, and it was my second time at 54, first time *that* close to the action unfolding before me. Truly, truly, truly, *THE* most emotionally-intense theatrical experience I have EVER had. Ever. To date, I have yet to literally, BAWL, as much as I did during that particular show. Mr. Evans and Ms. Russell continue to resonate in my mind, body, and spirit as splendors unmatched. I distinctly remember the curtain call. Couldn't see a friggin' thing - The eyes were too puffy, blurry, and all that goodness. I just remember the tears streaming down my face, and nodding to EVERYONE that came DS - Making eye contact with all of them. Spectacular evening. SPECTACULAR Sondheim.

As soon as the show ended, I sat stunned in my seat, knowing I had just experienced something life-changing. I turned to my mother, whom I had taken as a birthday gift, and was afraid wouldn't like or understand it.
She was sobbing.
She was sobbing.
I chose, and my world was shaken. So what?
The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

I sat in the last row of the mezz, and glad I did. I needed to stand in the back, afraid my sobbing would disturb others around me. Beyond amazing.

Random, but out of curiosity, if you can remember, during "Everybody loves Louis" and the phrase "I mean he kneeeaaadddss me" - did anyone laugh?
Also, do you guys get the same response out of watching the OBC DVD or is it just one of those moments you need to be there :P?

Upon first viewing of the OBC DVD, I was taken by the imagery and the beauty of it - BEING THERE, makes the material 110% more 'moving' and 'real' and 'awe-inspiring'. Live theatre's like that, y'know. It's a MUST, especially for someone like me with gentle hands and heavy heart.
RE: "Everybody Loves Louis" - Jenna's delivery, by all accounts, brought about a varied few chuckles. If memory serves, I was *too* involved with the production to laugh.

^I was just going to ask the exact same DVD question. It's up for rental on I-tunes now, and I'm wondering if it's worth the $3.

I figured you were a cast member of Cry Baby reminiscing about the show's closing.

heo1128, the Sunday OBC DVD is definitely worth $3!! The cast is perfect IMO (Although some people dislike Mandy :P). If you have seen the revival on Broadway especially watch it as you probably are interested in the show/can see the difference in productions/performances etc..

I'm still SO upset I missed this production, literally by a few days. But thanks for this, it's giving me chills just reading it. I'll definitely rent the DVD from itunes.

If it was so "life-changing", why did it close...and why isn't it touring to packed houses and changing lives across the country?
This country desperately needs some lives changed.
No...really!
I only ask, because I was counting on it hitting the road and coming to a theater near me. Sadly, that wont happen.

WHY? Because we are in a society where mediocrity is bound to thrive while excellence is bound to thrive.
