I have a question regarding dinner at 54 Below. My family and I are attending Barbara Cook's 9:30 performance on Thursday. We were planning on eating dinner their prior to the show, but I realized the doors won't open for our performance until 8:45, due to her 7pm show. Should we still try and have dinner their, or should we get dinner somewhere else and just have drinks/dessert there. Also, something else to consider would be Hamlet at the Writer's Theatre. I've not seen it yet, but Writer's Theatre produces some of the consistantly best theatre I've seen anywhere (i.e. David Cromer's Streetcar). Plus, their space is very intimate, which I love. Here is the website:

I saw Merrily at Playhouse last Sunday. Aside from listening to the OBC I have very little experience with the show, so I am not sure if some of the flaws in this production are just because of the production or because of the show itself. I agree with what has been said above. Definitely read a synopsis and at least look up some of the signature arias from the show. In my experience knowing at least a few of the key musical moments has really helped me appreciate it. What opera are you seeing? I'll be curious to hear what you think!

My ranking would be: 1. OBC - Yes, they hacked it to pieces, but the brilliance of the original cast cannot be ignored. Even though other recordings are more complete, this one still captures the show best for me. 2. I just recently saw a production of Caroline, Or Change at the Human Race Theatre in Dayton OH. I was somewhat familiar with the show before, but after seeing it, I just feel in love. There is also The Real Thing by Tom Stoppard at the Writer's Theatre. I haven't seen it, but it sounds wonderful, has great people in it, and the theatre is wonderfully intimate. I've seen two other things there (She Loves Me and David Cromer's Streetcar and they were both terrific). Also, if you want something less conventional, there is The Great Fire at Lookingglass. Wicked: I actually really love Wicked. I think the score is delightful with a lot of great songs, and I like the story (even if the book is not totally successful). Last night I finished reading Everything Was Possible. It was an incredible book with so many wonderful insights and stories. I was wondering if people here had suggestions for some other good theatre books which would be as informative and engaging as that one. I have a few in mind (Finishing the Hat, Not Since Carrie, and Ethan Mordden books) but I would like to add to that list. For whatever its worth, there is no pull quote from Brantley review of Enron when it was in London. I feel like if he raved about it, they would quote it on their site. But I could easily be mistaken. Also in regards to the Best Play discussion, what about Red? It got very strong reviews as well. I feel like it could potentially take the Tony as well.

Hey everyone, Is anyone else having trouble watching the previews here of the Broadway Shows (the ones under the TV/Video link on the column on the left)? Every time I try and click on one, an error message shows. This is disappointing because I really enjoy watching the previews to get a feel for the shows. Hey everyone, Before this current revival of Finian's Rainbow came about, I knew very little about the show. But following this production has really sparked my interest in it, and I really want to get a cast recording to familarize myself more with show. However, I'm unsure of which is the best. I agree that this tour is not to be missed. I saw it twice in Cincinnati, and was completely blown away. Every single performance was just wonderful. It was also my first time seeing the show and it is definitely one of my top musicals now. It was one of the best experiences I've had in the theatre. Go see it now. (Maybe I'll try and make it to Columbus to see it again...)

I saw the tour on Wednesday June 3. We also had Lucas A. Wells for Melchior but we had Krystina Alabado for Ilse. I too absolutely loved it. I was very impressed by the choreography and staging (Left Behind was just devestating). The cast was wonderful especially Wells as Melchior and Christy Altomare as Wendla. My only compliant about the show was Blake Bashoff as Moritz. I thought that he overacted like crazy and I found his voice to be very nasally and unpleasent. Aside from him however, I...
