Got back from my long weekend late yesterday. It was such an amazing trip!! Shows in order:

Phantom: I'd never seen the show on Broadway before, just the tour and Vegas productions. Even though I was in the rear mez, it was still amazing to see. I'd forgotten how beautiful the show is. Peter is the best Phantom I've seen. His voice is amazing! Ali was also a superb Christine.

Aladdin: I only really went to see this because 1) I haven't gotten to see a Disney show on Broadway (I'm a giant Disney nerd, and the closest was when I saw Mermaid pre-Broadway in Denver) and 2) I know Major and Brian Gonzales from the Dallas theater scene and wanted to see them perform. That being said, the show was so much fun! I was a little sad Telly was out cause I wanted to see him as well, but his understudy was a good Aladdin. Major was absolutely amazing and teared up during Friend Like Me cause he was killing it!! Glad I added a day to my trip to see it.

Spongebob: OMFG Spongebob was so fricking amazing I don't even know how to put it into words. The costumes, the music (SURPRINSINGLY), the cast, and the sets were just so great. I wish there was like a special Tony Ethan could get just for the marathon he's running on stage. It's amazing!!

Hello, Dolly: Bernadette Peters as one of the quintessential leading ladies of Broadway? Do I need to say more? It was just life changing. I'd only see the movie, which had like all the humor and fun sucked out of it. It was so hilarious! And Bernadette was just so good. I'd only gotten to see her in concert (where she literally sang into my face at one point), so getting to see her perform in an actual show is a dream come true. The only down side is that I was in the side orchestra so I missed all of the parts with Horace and Ernestina.

Once on This Island: This was the show I planned my trip to come see, and it did not disappoint. I bought tickets through my work discount page, so I didn't get to pick my seat, but ended up with a front row seat kinda close to the pool. It was amazing. Lea interacted with me for like 5 minutes during the "pre-show" and it was hard not to gush with her so close to me, but I kept my cool lol. I teared up so much during this show; during We Dance, when Tonton and Mama were trying to get Ti Moune to stay, and basically the entire last part of the show. I wish I could see this like 5 more times.

The Band's Visit: TBH, I feel kinda bad cause I think my blood sugar was spiking and my body kept threatening to make me fall asleep. I also think this show is kinda like Passion, and it needs to be watched a couple of times for it to really sink in. It was still a great show, I just wish it could have affected me more. I am looking forward to listening to the cast album a few times though.

Sweeney Todd: My very first show in NYC and on Broadway was the Doyle revival of Sweeney, which blew me away with its inventiveness. This production is even better!! I was in B12, right by the pie counter. Having Carolee and Hugh practically sing in my face is probably the best thing ever. Hugh also made me tear up some during The Barber and His Wife. The whole cast was just amazing! It was so cool to hear the different harmonies at different parts depending on who was by you. I'm just so glad I made it the last show of my trip.

I have been taking too many marathon Broadway trips lately and I can’t afford to take another one for a long time so threads like this are nice to see. Kind of feels like I’m tagging along seeing all these shows too.
