Solo theatergoers are on the rise — and theaters want more of them : NPR Mar 4 2026, 08:12:06 PM
Prior to about 2011, I would always have to go with someone to a Broadway show. I would ask current friends, former friends, exes; I would look up people I haven’t spoken to you in years. Then, I finally just ran out of people willing to keep seeing shows with me. Too many people I knew saw theater as a once-a-year thing, not a constant thing like me. So, I finally went by myself. I felt like everyone was staring at me and feeling sorry for the friendless loser. But then I realize

She has starred in New York’s ‘worst show’ for 40 years. Why? Jan 20 2026, 04:29:47 PM
I saw Perfect Crime about 10 years ago and did not enjoy it and would never see it again. That said, this article has me siding with and identifying with Catherine Russell, mostly because of the obnoxious, condescending tone of the writer. If someone like the the writer doesn't like her, then I probably would. I also appreciated how she said that she just likes doing the show so why would she stop? Because the reddit mob is after her? That's so silly.

Les Miz the Staged Concert at Radio City Oct 22 2025, 05:27:14 PM
Just got my ticket! Can't remember when I bought a ticket for something so far in advance. I do wish they could somehow bring back the revolve for this but I suppose we should accept we are not gonna see that staging again.

I just saw the show over Labor Day weekend and the audience was like a rock concert from the moment the show started. I see the show frequently (38 times over 19 years) and it’s more common now to see crazed audiences than it used to be. The only time the audience isn’t nuts is when a stunt cast is in the show, like when Erika Jayne was in it, you could just tell all her fans absolutely hated the show and they brought the energy down quite a bit. But when it’s just two

Looking for help identifying a “come home” Broadway song Sep 19 2025, 07:40:55 PM
Are you sure you weren't thinking of In the Heights?
The show has "Breathe" sung mostly by Nina with lyrics like:
But maybe I should have just stayed home (Mira, Nina) When I was a child I stayed wide awake Climbed to the highest place On every fire escape Restless to climb (Respira) I got every scholarship Saved every dollar The first to go to college How do I tell them why (Respira) I’m coming back home? (Ah) With my eyes on the horizon Just me and the GWB Asking, “Gee, Nina, what’ll you be?"
and also the song "When You're Home" sung by Nina and Benny with lyrics like:
Nina, everything is easier when you’re home The street’s a little kinder when you’re home Can’t you see that the day seems clearer Now that you are here or is it me? Maybe it’s just me…

MASQUERADE Previews Thread Sep 1 2025, 09:16:41 PM
Well, I finally saw Masquerade and since I don't know how to use the spoilers tab thing,
Overall, it was exciting, fast paced, emotional, and entertaining.
Absolute highlight: During Music of the Night, having Telly Leung litereally push my legs out of the way so he can access Christine.
****MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD****
Now as someone who saw the original 1988 production at the Majestic 90 times, this production had me nervous:

Saw the show at the Ambassador for the 38th time last night.
First time seeing Bianca as Velma! I definitely like her better as Roxie. The best way to describe her way of singing All that Jazz was goofy? She used her silly voice (like the one when she mocks Billy before the trial) It pains me to say that because I adore her as Roxie and I'm alway so thrilled when she comes back to the role. She threw a rose at me too and it bounced off my hand and the girl next to me grabbed i

Your first Broadway show? Aug 27 2025, 03:39:29 PM
The Phantom of the Opera on Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at 8pm. I was SO excited because I bought the tickets over the phone and the operator said they were front row, so I expected front row center. They turned out to be all the way at the far end of the row, but it was still incredible. and I saw it 89 more times after that.

re: Favorite show ever Jul 30 2025, 11:05:17 PM
My top three are
1. Phantom of the Opera
2. Les Miserables
3. Rent
I thoroughly enjoy the late 90s early 2000s era when all three were on Broadway at the same time. I went back and forth between those three many many MANY times in those years. My other faves
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Chicago
Spring Awakening
West Side Story
The Music Man
Book of Mormon
Hamilton

Jesse Green NYT's Critic's Pick review of "Prince Faggot" Jun 27 2025, 10:32:48 AM
Do Trump supporters support gay kids? Do Trump supporters care about gay kids--even one---even a famous one--getting bullied? Well, neither do most of you. So this board has gone MAGA because it does not matter if one possibly gay eleven year old is going to feel victimized or get bullied because of this play. Your right to see and enjoy the play is more important than his gay rights.

Because LGBT youth suicide isn't a thing anymore, right? These kids aren't bullied anymore and never go that far. The cruelty on this board makes me hopeless.

Jesse Green NYT's Critic's Pick review of "Prince Faggot" Jun 27 2025, 10:19:03 AM
The first thing this play made me think of is how, around the age of 11, I had to go home and find a dictionary with that word in it to understand what the other boys were calling me. I didn't know what the word meant.
I am all for provocative, insane, offensive theater but I do feel awful for Prince George. HIs classmates, or more likely the adults around his classmates, will catch word of this play and mention it to them, who will mention it to Prince George, who will have

You can bet on New York getting that cheap copy sooner or later, as CamMack is clearly following his Les Miz playbook of replacing the original and trotting out the new version to the rest of the world. This time, he gets to use such bizarre marketing phrases like "it's the brilliant original--better than ever!" Hmmmm. I'm sure the new tour will be on the road for a year or two and then get dumped on Broadway with same nonsense marketing, and somehow being

Why are audiences so poorly behaved these days? Jun 20 2025, 02:42:46 PM
This is all anecdotal since we don't have any way of measuring audience behavior today vs any other time. My audiences have been good other than the women at CHICAGO who made me get up to let them out of the row 13 times during the show.
I try to sit in the first few rows of the orchestra at every show I go to, and a big part of the reason I do that is beause there will be fewer people to deal with and potential bad behavior to annoy me. Of course, I've had plenty of
