9 to 5 - Free Programmes

Went last night to see 9 to 5 and they were giving a free Programme with any merchandise purchase. I bought a mug so got a mug and programme for $15. Not too bad.
On another note I really enjoyed the show. Was sitting in the lottery seats Row H. I honestly don't know why it hasn't taken off big time. The theatre (at least the stalls) were packed last night and the reaction to the show was great. It beat my expectations thats for sure.

Woah! Do you think they'll be doing this for the rest of their run? Because I will die if they are not doing that tomorrow when I see it!
(They'll probably run out of 'em by then. Hoooooray.)

Posted: 8/19/09 at 10:25amI was there too, first row all the way on the left side. I don't know why I saw this show again considering that I really didn't like it much the first time. But, I am sure that they are giving away the programs with any merch you buy due to the fact that they are just trying to get rid of them before they close.

Posted: 8/19/09 at 11:50amDoes anyone know if there is a way to buy stuff at the theater without having a ticket? I could go today after work and get there before the show lets out. I would think they would let me past if I wanted to purchase something. Do they have a souvenir stand "outside" of the area? Or are they all located inside after you show your ticket. I know at the Shubert you could walk into the lobby and buy stuff before entering the theater, but I don't recall the Marriot being set up like that.

There is not a souvenir stand before the ticket ushers, but I believe if you just explain that you only want to purchase merchandise, they may let you through. I have seen that happen before.

I have bought souvenirs at performances I did not attend many times -- just explain to the ticket taker or the security person what you want to do and they will coordinate it. For most productions, the merchandise people are only there for just a few minutes before the show is over, though -- they are not open throughout the entire show.
The only time I have had trouble is at a performance of Next to Normal I attended, where the merchandise person was holding up the CD's during intermission and refused to allow me to buy any other merchandise until after the show, even though he was literally standing about 5 feet from the booth. It was very bizarre.

Free programs with another purchase are still being given out as of tonight. If I overheard correctly you also get a free magnet if you spend over $25.
They must be really desperate to get rid of stuff because someone was wiling to pay the full price for the program and the girl told her to buy the $8 dollar magnet and get it free.

They can't save the programmes for the tour as the cast won't be the same. Same for any merchandise that has images of Allison, Stephanie and Megan (eg the magnet).

Wow! I went last night, and bought a CD and a t-shirt for my little sister, and in the end, I was carrying a cd (paid for), a tee (paid for), a programme (free), a magnet (free), a HAT (free), and a TOTE BAG (free).
Let me explain.
Any purchase gets a free programme.
Any purchase of $20 gets a magnet.
Any purchase of $30 gets a hat.
Any purchase of $40 gets a tote bag.
Now, I spent 45 dollars, and got all four items free. Now it was a shame that at the stage door Allison didn't come out...
PS-Steph was out last night... Her understudy surprised me, but I was still sad about Steph's absence!

Yes they can. Many shows have done it. RENT, Hairspray, and Wicked (though the latter eventually introduced programs with various casts) all used the programs featuring their original broadway casts.

Posted: 8/21/09 at 10:44amGaleen was on a Judy. Apparently, it was a very last minute thing when it was announced that she wasn't going on... As I said, Galeen was great, but she just caught me off guard!
