#19 to 5 to begin using lottery on Tuesday?
Posted: 5/8/09 at 3:49pmI asked the man in the box office at the Marquis Theater what the policy is for rush, and he said he wasn't sure if it was going to be a rush or a lottery (in the future). I believe he said they are beginning a lottery system on Tuesday. Has anyone heard about this? Are the seats still going to be partial view or will they change it to front row? Sorry if this has already been posted.

Posted: 5/8/09 at 6:51pmYes, they are switching to a lottery on Tuesday. I don't know all the details, but I can confirm that it will be a lottery effective Tuesday.

Posted: 5/8/09 at 8:16pmI'm guessing the ticket price will be going down $10 then? Aren't most, if not all lottos $26.50 a ticket? I love how this surfaces the day after I rushed the show...

Posted: 5/13/09 at 7:34pmWHAT?! That sucks. I'm glad I already saw it then. I can understand it though, cause when I was waiting in line for the rush, people got PISSED when just before they went on sale it turned out people were holding others places in line.

Posted: 5/13/09 at 8:03pmI called the box office today and they said the drawing begins 2 hrs before the show and the names are called 90 min before. The tickets are $36.50 like the rush tickets and 35 are avaliable. I'm guessing they are the partial view orchestra seats too.

Posted: 5/13/09 at 8:07pmI don't understand what the point of this is, I was planning to wait on line for a rush ticket, but I don't think I'd risk the lottery...anybody understand why they're doing this?

Posted: 5/13/09 at 8:10pmNumbered wrist bands work wonders to solve that. You don't get a wrist band until you're actually there. Working wonders across 45th. :)

Posted: 5/14/09 at 1:40amYes, lotteries can be immensely frustrating (I had to try the Avenue Q one 10 times before I won), but rush favors locals and people who don't have day jobs and can wait around for hours. I used to live a lot closer to the city than I do now, so I guess I'm glad the unfairness is tilting a bit in my direction these days.

Posted: 5/14/09 at 9:40amI agree, Plum. I did like that 9 to 5 did rush 90 minutes before the show (because it made it much more pleasant being able to just get your tickets, get dinner and then return to the theater for the show--as opposed to getting your ticket at 10 and then having to entertain yourself in the city for 10 hours...), but the lottery is a great idea--it will definitely attract more people to the show too. It gives everyone a fair chance.

Posted: 5/14/09 at 11:35amIf they're calling names 90 minutes before the show, you still have time to get dinner afterwards. The same amount of time as you would after getting the ticket when it's rush.

Posted: 5/14/09 at 12:08pmOh no--I was saying that was a good thing. The problem with rush though (at 10 AM) is that there are some unfair advantages (for people with jobs during the day and stuff, or for people who don't live in the city). It's also nice that you won't have to wait 2+ hours for a ticket when you could find out within a few minutes whether or not you are going to see it.

Posted: 5/15/09 at 9:14amI'm trying lotto tonight so I will let you all know what the process was like. The only other detail I know is that it is indeed cash only.

Got there at 6 and names were drawn at 6:30. There are 38 seats. They are the side orchestra partial view seats, which really aren't too obstructed at all. Definitely worth it. $36.50 cash only.
My name was drawn, but everyone's was because there were more tickets than people there for the lotto, which seemed odd to the people running it because apparently there were 75 people there on Tuesday for the first lotto day.
