I saw it on Saturday and found it to be a heartwarming little show with a great score. Faith Prince, Leslie Kritzer, and Tom Wopat were well cast. I think the uncle, as played by Harvey, should have been firmly in a sub-plot position. Whenever Harvey was on stage he drew attention away from the core of the show. I felt he was playing himself rather than fitting into the role. It was distracting and against the tone of the piece. The character has its place and I understand the outsider dimension, but his acting choices were too over the top.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 11:54amI saw A CATERED AFFAIR last weekend, and was so surprised by how moved I was. I think it's a brilliantly crafted little show, with a winning score and tremendous performances. It's a crime that it wasn't loved by critics, and didn't garner more nominations.

I really enjoyed this show.
Not a crowd pleaser, but much more craft evident than "Cry Baby."
Sad about the Tony's.

My two aunts went to see it expecting a big staged glitzy wedding musical complete with rockin' reception and cake for everyone. They were disappointed. I told them thy should have researched it, but they were mislead by the posters.Their loss. I loved the show and everything about it.

The posters didn't seem that upbeat to me, but maybe I knew too much before I saw them.
I guess when you see the wedding cake and all you equate it with Mamma Mia!, and obviously the two shows aren't similar.
