re: A Change in Me

When I view my VHS from this years bway on bway , I ALWAYS cringe on HOW awful CCR was during "A Change In Me". That is my favorite song and she shouted that entire thing out. Straining the entire way. It's a shame because I really did like her on "Even Stevens" I used to come home from school all the time and watch it on Disney ha! But, it makes me mad that some of us here have a lot more vocal talent and that is the last TV memory we have of it being sung.

re: A Change in Me

I'm sorry...I can't help it...and if this sounds mean-spirited, it's NOT intentional AT ALL. But am I the only person who thought it was humorously ironic that the first Belle to sing "A Change in Me" was also the first Belle who was not caucasian?

Ayep, I certainly DID see a change in you, Belle...(wink)

re: A Change in Me

Considering it's the 10th Anniversary (CCR was in the 10th Anniversary cast, but who cares), they should record a 10th Anniversary Cast Recording with Brooke Tansley including "A Change in Me."

re: A Change in Me

the song was added for Toni because they wanted to show off her talents in the blues/r&b kind of style

when she sang the song it had that feel to it - which was fine but i just didn't see it as fitting belle - when Toni left the show they reworked the song to make it fit belle's character more

re: A Change in Me

original Belle susan egan does sing it on "All That and More," as we've mentioned, earlier in the thread i included a link to a clip

it's definitely worth buying the CD for that and her songs from Cabaret, if nothing else

re: A Change in Me

Actually Susan sings it on "So Far..." and it's fabulous! It is a gorgeous song.

re: A Change in Me

I burned a CD today of the OBC and put "A Change in Me" on it so I could have it all on one CD. Except I used the London CD for the "If I Can't Love Her" reprise and "Maison des Lunes" so I could have the updated lyrics....

re: A Change in Me

There have been changes on Broadway too. The OBC recording was made whie the show was still in previews and many songs have had minor/major changes. I'd ove for a new CD to be made with the current cast and the song changes. I think it would be great.

re: A Change in Me

"Maison des Lunes" is almost completely revised. "If I Can't Love Her" reprise is completely different too...

No spell has been broken
No words have been spoken
No point anymore
If she can't love me
No hope she would do so
No dream to persue so
I finally know that I will always be
In this hopeless state
and condemed to wait
Wait for death to set me free...

much more powerful and sad...

funny thing is, though, the lyrics on the London CD are different, but in the booklet thery are the same as the Broadway CD. They forgot to change them when they made the book...

re: A Change in Me

I always get tears for the "If I Can't Love Her" reprise. It is very sad but it's very very good.

Monsieur D'Arque does much more singing in the revised "Maison des Lunes" and the guy playing him now is good so I like it better. His voice is very fitting.
