Just got back from seeing it in Ft. Lauderdale.
**Just a side note: Anyone who is going should check for discount/student/rush tickets. I didn't know if I was going to be able to go so I didn't purchase tickets ahead of time. When I got to the theatre, I was going to pay regular price until, on a whim, I asked if they had any "specials." With my student ID card, I got 6th row orchestra for 20$.
Anyway....
While I LOVED it, I prefer the cast I saw in in NYC over a year ago. The standout in this cast was Kevin Santos (Paul). Although his monologue, IMO, was a little TOO long, it was very heartfelt and I started tearing up towards the end. Also, a standout was Liza Domingo (Val). Excellent Dance: Ten; Looks: Three.
Gabrielle Ruiz (Diana) did not thrill me at all. I liked Natalie Cortez much, much better.
Bebe (Dena Digiacinto) seemed to be a little old for the part; it felt that Krysta Rodriguez was more fitting for the part. And Sheila, while she was okay, she wasn't all that memorable, a character I feel who should be.
"Also, a standout was Liza Domingo (Val)"
Q, Liza Domingo played Connie, not Val. What did you think of the rest of the characters?
I also thought that Paul's monologue felt a bit long.
Were there any understudies performing today?

Sorry, muscle, you are right. Mindy Dougherty was on as Val and was awesome- one of the standouts! I was talking to a friend that saw it a few days ago and saw Stephanie M(some spaghetti sounding last name). She said that Mindy was supertabulastic compared to the voice of Stephanie (who, she lovingly calls the voice of doom).
There were no understudies at today's performance.
Muscle, I don't really try to go in depth into the characters as I like to watch them all and not look too deeply for something I like or dislike- the particular ones I mentioned just stood out for one reason or another. There are too many things in life I have to pay very close attention to so I *try* to view theatre in a superficial manner without too much analyzation, ya know?

"Stephanie M(some spaghetti sounding last name)...."
The more things change the more they stay the same. At least it wasn't some unpronounceable Spanish-speaking Spic name, huh SweetQ?
Anyone who loves theater will LOVE this show, or else I'm pretty sure you are a disgrace to the American musical....well that's my opinion at least.

I know a few theatre lovers, one's an actor, who hate musicals. They're not synonymous, you know.
Well, I meant musical theatre, not straight theatre.
I do have a few friends that went to see the show and didn't care for it, and they LOVE musical theatre. Of course I disagree since I love ACL!
Going back to the character of Maggie, Mara Davi was great when I saw her in NYC, but her replacement, that I was lucky enough to see as well, was Melissa Lone and she was absolutely brilliant. I hope we get to see Melissa on Broadway soon. A true gift.
