A&E's Breakfast With the Arts no more?

Did a search, came up with nothing on this.
Got up this morning to watch the second half of Breakfast with the Arts and at the end the host said that today's program was the final broadcast of the show. It is not returning. Does anybody know what happened with the show? I will miss it. Especially for the theatre segments.

Sad.
But A&E has become the network for Dog the Bounty Hunter - a far cry from Arts and Entertainment.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 11:28amTrue. They are now advertising some new music show. It saddens me that a station called A&E isn't really that! Being in Denver it is really disheartening as I looked forward to them doing theatre/Broadway related things.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 11:56amI saw that too, so dissapointing. Watching Breakfast with the Arts helps me get out of bed every Sunday morning.

That completely sucks! Beyond lots of theater coverage, there was so much regional theater and cultural reporting that you found nowhere else.
I hope someone takes the concept and gets something similar on another cable outlet. I mean couldn't CNN cut an hour of Paris Hilton reporting each week and make space for something like Breakfast With the Arts. I don't care if it's on at 6am. I'll DVR it.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 12:02pmAww..I only discovered this show this year, and now it's cancelled? That's really such a shame. But I must admit, I love Dog the Bounty Hunter! It may not be Arts, but it is Entertainment!

A&E should cut its initials in half to E...oh wait...that already exists.
I'm not sad to say I am dissapointed that A&E no longer lives up to what it used to be. They used to air Broadway shows now and then, show wonderful films based on British Literature (ie Jane Eyre) and historical figures (The multi houred Victoria & Albert)...the list goes on.
It's too bad. Breakfast with the Arts was a wonderful program.
I am starting to warm up to a possible replacement in Ovation TV, which airs operas, dance, concerts, et cetera.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 2:35pmThis news sucks. If I woke up early on Sunday, I'd always watch Breakfast With the Arts as I ate breakfast. It became the only show I would watch on that channel ever since A&E hopped on the reality TV bandwagon. It's dissapointing that A&E is no longer carries the programming it did a few years ago.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 5:58pmWow. That is surprising. Should we write A&E? I always tune in to to see if Broadway people are on.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 6:28pmOvation TV is apparently brand new. I have it on my DirecTv subscription. Was added without me knowing, and I was very happy. They had a Mozart opera on the other day.
#13re: A&E's Breakfast With the Arts no more?
Posted: 6/24/07 at 6:29pmI went to the contact section of their website and sent an e-mail saying how disappointing it was that they took this show off and that the programming doesn't really represent the name of the channel.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 6:33pmI might do the same. It may not change anything, but at least they'll be aware.

Quite true about how A&E used to focus more on the 'arts' aspect of their name.
I remember they used to air tons of old TV specials, like the early 80's Cher special in Las Vegas (where she made her entrance sliding down that enormous platform shoe) and those 2 Goldie Hawn & Liza Minnelli TV specials from the late 70's -- heck, even MIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV: ON BROADWAY (with Liza Minnelli) was always running, as was the Lena Horne: The Lady & Her Music Broadway production.
Back in the mid-80's, they were the ones who first introduced me to the world of French & Saunders.
They also used to show all the time those Sondheim shows: SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, INTO THE WOODS and SWEENEY TODD.

Sigh. Just another example of the dumbing down of America.
I didn't have cable then.
By the time I got cable, AMC has all but abandoned black and white movies. And A&E might as well be called the Assinine and Exploitation network or whatever goes with A&E.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 7:48pmApparently, Breakfast With the Arts will be replaced with a music entertainment series. "Private Sessions" (sounds like soft-core porn to me)is the name of the new series, and it features musical performances and interviews - one musical guest per show. The first guest will be Avril Lavigne.

Yeah, like there needs to be another show devoted to artists that are already in the public eye and sells millions of records.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 8:27pmOvation TV is great! But it's too bad about BWTA, it was a nice, stimulating way to spend 2 hours on a Sunday morning.

I honestly thought the wshow was long gone already--sad I missed it's last years
It was really the last remnant though--A&E has been going down this path for at least 5 or more years it seems

Usually on the Sunday of the Tony Awards they do a seasonal overview. But this year on Tony Awards Sunday it was profiles of two rock bands with no mention of the Tony Awards at all.
I suddently get the picture: some hotshot program consultant tells A&E that they'll get a larger and younger audience for BREAKFAST if they profile contemporary artists. They try it for a few weeks. The original audince goes away and no new audience materializes to replace them, so they cancel the show.
Sad.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

that's so sad! i remember the first time i watched BWTA, when my 3rd grade ballet teacher told us to tune in and watch for ballet or dance related material and i fell in love with the show. it's a shame. A&E is like another MTV...no longer living up to it's name.
ovation is a great channel. used to have it and watch it all the time <3
