A Great A LIttle Night Music Casting Idea

How about Jonathan Pryce as Fredrik? He's a semi-name, and along with a name Desiree, and (this rumor seems to have gone away quickly) Lansbury as Madame Armfeldt, this show could be a big big hit!

Well a revival is in the works under the direction of Nunn. Lansbury was rumored, and there were a few news items about it, but it sort of went away. Close was in it for a while, and then she dropped out (thank God).

Would Lansbury accept a small role like Madame Armfeldt?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Diana Rigg as Desiree.

It's not a teeny tiny role. Lasbury would be able to make one last Broadway triumph, and never have to stand up! I doubt she could do a role that required much movement anymore, so this seems an ideal chance for her to be on Broadway once more. (And prove to everyone that she wasn't just the old lady on Murder She Wrote).

I love Jonathan Pryce but he's kind of old for it (60) but than so is Glenn Close (59) and Diana Rigg (68 ). I mean the character is supposed to have a 13 year old daughter...

Glynis Johns was 48 in the original production. Len Cariou, according to the IMDB was born in 1939 making him only 34 in the original production!

Don't say it out loud, you will jinx it. re: A Great A LIttle Night Music Casting Idea

I think it would be the perfect role for Lansbury to return with, for the reasons Bobby said.

I want it so badly, which is why I don't think it will happen.

I also think Pryce is probably a bit old for the role, but it mainly depends on the age of the Desiree.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Yeah, but there are no Forty-something actresses that have the finesse to play Desiree. Desiree shouldn't be played by a tart in a nice dress.

Oh Goth, come on - that's not true. There are lots of 40 something actresses who could do it. The other quality Desiree has to have is an earthy warmth. Something Glynis Johns had in spades and what made her so definitive in the part (along with actresses like Judi Dench). Desiree actually isn't really regal - she is a second rate touring theatre actress...

Diana Rigg would actually make a fine Madame Armfeldt.

Quick FYI: I must dig up where I found this interview, but La Lansbury just had a knee replaced and has stated she can move again and WANTS to dance. I don't know that she'd be doing any high kicks for 8 shows a week but her implication was that she could get around onstage and wanted to do so.

Such as? (Bear in mind that they will cast someone who can sell tickets)

What about Marcia Gay Harden?

re: A Great A LIttle Night Music Casting Idea

If Julianne were Desiree I would see the show 100 times.
And that is only if she were merely passable, if she were great, they might as well reserve me a seat. And if Lansbury were in it too... oh my.

Is that pathetic, yes. But VERY true.

If there was a Marin Mazzie for DES capaign,....I would devote myself entirely to it. I still want Jeremy Irons to play Fredrik again but Jonathan Pryce would be really great.
Diana Rigg is about 100 years old..

Michelle Pfeiffer
Emma Thompson
Holly Hunter
Beverly D'Angelo
Susan Sarandon

There are lots of interesting people who might be potentially interesting in it - but I really like my Julianne Moore idea :)

Why do you say that Brody? She's scheduled to do David Hare's new play on Broadway next season.

I was high on the Streep band wagon, and still would be - but...she's also pushing being too old for it.
