I've only recently started to get into this musical, although I've had a recording of it for about a year and a half. I think my recording is the 1994 concept cast, or something like that. I know it has Linda Eder and Carolee Carmello and John Raitt.
Anyways, I really like the songs "Bitch, Bitch, Bitch" and "Bring on the Men".
However when I was looking at the musical on ibdb.com both these songs were not in the song list, so I was going wondering if there were changes made to the show in the process. I can't imagine why they would take out "Bring on the Men", it was actually my favorite on the whole recording

Posted: 12/15/05 at 1:51pm"Bring on the Men" was in the show when I saw it before it hit Broadway. It actually stopped the flow of the first act in my opinion.

Posted: 12/15/05 at 2:30pmAlthough I never saw J&H prior to it's Broadway engagement, I think that basically they wanted to tighten the focus of the show by having less "rich versus poor" stuff and more "good versus evil" stuff. Hence, the elimination of "Bitch, Bitch, Bitch" (a terrible song anyway), the new lyrics to "Facade," and the replacement of "Bring On the Men" with "Good and Evil." However, the former song was much better, as "Good and Evil" touches on the show's theme with the sublety of a sledgehammer.

Posted: 12/15/05 at 4:33pmGood and Evil was added to tie in the battle between Good and Evil with more characters than just Jekyll/Hyde. However, the song Bring On The Men was considered a better choice for Lucy to sing in the club (it is more realistic and suits the character better) and that is why it is in the MTI script and Good and Evil is not.

I believe that actress was Linda Eder - and she was unhappy about the change.
I like BITCH, BITCH, BITCH too
I also like I NEED TO KNOW more than...::blanks::
A lot of the concept was better.

BSO- I also believe that the majority of the concept was better, but there was just SO much. The big problem with the Broadway incarnation of the show was that they had to condense/change A LOT of the score. Also, and I may be wrong about this, I believe they had to change the special effects company they were using (the one that made the mirror for the pre-BWAY 'Confrontation' scene.
I truly believe that the BEST version of J&H is the current version that you perform when you order the rights through MTI. It includes some of the best parts from the Broadway version but also some of the best stuff that they cut (I need to Know, Bring on the Men.

Posted: 12/15/05 at 4:55pmI agree about the MTI version. What you mentioned about the special effects being changed is correct. J&H was used to playing in large houses with the space to handle a large cast onstage as well as large sets and special effects. A lot of the staging, set design, and effects had to be changed and scaled down when it was booked into the smaller Plymouth Theatre.

Posted: 12/17/05 at 1:49amthe current version you oreder does have "bring on the men" and "i need to know" but the script to the Broadway production is much better and i don't understand why they didn't stick to it. I have transcribed it by watching the DVD and will use it in the production i will be directing after the first of the year.

Posted: 12/21/05 at 8:11pmI've been wondering... did Bring On The Men fit better than Good and Evil? Doesn't Jekyll get inspired by Good and Evil to perform the experiment on himself?
