Are the student rush tickets for A Little Night Music in high demand? I know the demand for rush tickets can vary with shows to the point of needing to arrive at the box office two hours before opening to arriving two hours before showtime. If I wanted to get rush tickets, when would I need to arrive?
(I did two searches and found no threads. If I overlooked a thread, please point me to it.)
I'm also debating between Billy Elliot and West Side Story - are their student rush/lottery systems any easier?

Not sure what time they start lining up. But keep in mind that the rush is for standing room only.
I do know the show gets a cancellation line before each performance.
West Side Story's lotto isn't impossible.

Playbill's summary of the rush policies was updated on January 17, and they still list Billy Elliot as having a rush. Granted, the prices for the rush tickets are double that of other shows and it sounds like the seats are in the back of the balcony...
I know Night Music's rush is for SRO. The only other time I did SRO was for Les Miserables at the Broadhurst, and the ushers were very nice about seating you at intermission. My hope would be that Walter Kerr ushers would be that nice and flexible, too.
Thanks for your help! I don't come to New York often, so I want to maximize the potential for scoring tickets to good shows.

If Saturday's matinee was any indication, based on what I could see in the orchestra, there were no empty seats available to put the SRO patrons.

Yes, the tickets are in high demand.
When you need to get in line can vary on the day you're going to see it, the time of year, and weather. Weekdays, I'd say you'd be fine anywhere from hour and a half to an hour before. Weekends, you'll probably need to get there 2 hours before. They only have 13 SRO tickets, so you if you see any more people than that in line, just turn around.
