'A Little Night Music' score question...
'A Little Night Music' score question...#1

How many players is 'A Little Night Music' scored for?
I'm curious because the Centerstage production will only have 8 musicians, and usually it sounds the score is played by more than that.
Anyone know? Because if I am driving 3 hours I want to hear how this incredible score is meant to sound.

Not sure originally but teh OCR has an orchestra of 35.
Where are you going to see this?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I might check out the Centerstage production in Baltimore starring Polly Bergen and Barbara Walsh.
But a score for 35 played by 8? I don't know if it's worth it. This score is too amazing.

Last season Shaw Festival did a new musical called TRISTAN scored for String Quaret and Piano. This year in that same space they will do ALNM, and I believe the smaller more intimate chamber sound would be perfect for it.

The minimum to play Tunnick's original orchestration is 18 players, but that's with minimum strings. Actually more like 24. There are five extensive doubling reed players alone.
I'm sure by now, there is a reduced size score, as Music Theatre International offers them for other shows, but no mention is made for one on their website.
