ROTTEN NEWS!!!! Mr. Iron's contributions to the entertainment world have become eclipsed but his thirst for blood and the thrill of killing innocent, frightened animals. HE HAS been a very vocal OPPONENT of new laws in the United Kingdom outlawing foxhunting. WHAT A PATHETIC JERK THIS MORON IS! I think someone should put this loser in a cage, put him in a fox suit and let him "save" the barbarically sick "sport" of foxhunting by allowing himself to be the prey.
What a piece of human garbage this excuse for a man is.

why hunting is such a big deal? You are too zealous.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:46amI hope you realize either way, animals will die. If fox hunting is outlawed, many of those hound dogs who are bred soley for hunting and can no longer be domesticated will most likely be killed. A wealthy student from England at my acting studio told me about this. Tragic both ways, but Jeromy Irons is hardly a piece of human garbage.

Well, I, for one, think that fox-hunting should be banned too. If you actually see HOW they're hunted, it's not just a matter of shooting them, they are literally torn to pieces by the dogs.
The reasoning against the ban (the killing of the hound dogs) is not a valid reason in my opinion and is a pathetic excuse that 'hunters' use.
Don't think I'd get as 'vocal' about it as IWishIHadATony but it always makes me happy to see that there are people who care.

I guess the PC police will cut that scene out of the Mame revival. Maybe Mame can go trout fishing.

I didn't know that Jeremy Irons was pro fux-hunting and was so vocal about it. I had no idea.

I am no fan of hunting, but I always marvel at the zeal and foot-stomping outrage of animal rights activists in a world that turns its face, daily, on the death of literally thousands of people in Africa every day from hunger, malnutrition, AIDS, and internecine warfare. (Read the recent NY Times editorial; the daily toll is beyond imagining.) Why do those people who set up booths on streets always seem to be such miscreants? With the attitude that animals are somehow superior? I'm against fur, and even starving cats, but as a society, let's establish some priorities, folks.
If only we cared as deeply about our own species as we do animals. Plenty of people are 'helpless creatures' as well, and we simply turn our heads away.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 1:02pmRegarding the foxhunting ban, I believe that drag hunting is still permissible (someone goes out beforehand and drags a bag soaked in fox urine along a predetermined hunting path) but using their dogs to rip apart a living fox or follow a living fox (or stag) is not allowed for all of the obvious reasons, cruelty being number one. And foxhounds won't be put down because of the ban though that's a popular threat being used by the advocates of foxhunting (I think in the US and Canada hunts are conducted without killing the fox? Any horse people out there?). Regarding Jeremy Irons, you'd think he'd pity the foxes because all the times he's been ripped apart by the critics.

I, for one, am very glad to see this kind of posting – I think there is plenty of room for caring for fellow man as well as our fellow creatures, and there is little to no excuse for not playing your part to either (especially in our little Broadway society). We as humans are terribly arrogant to think we can barge into the animal worlds and victimize them for our needs, pleasures, etc.
I am not an animal activist, religious whack job, high-and-mighty soap box pounding freak. I just believe in being good to anything that can stare me in the eyes.
TONY – Thanks you for pointing it out – I have a habit of turning my back on celebrities who endorse anything barbaric.

People are entitled to their opinions.
It's not like the paparazzi caught him kicking cancer kids in the face with the amputated leg of a homeless veteran.
Your rage is not only off-topic for this particular message board, but comparatively overcharged. Unless your mother is a fox. Which I hear she is.

Wonderful post, blueraven.
The fact that I care about the welfare of animals doesn't make me ignorant or less caring towards the needs of people in Africa etc.

I understand what Auggie was saying (I think). It's pretty easy to worry about the cute and fuzzy widdle animals rather than apply yourself to the stickier problems of human welfare. No one's saying that believing in animal rights is incompatible with caring about people in need, but I think the strength of animal rights movements is at least partly due to that.
Which animals get attention? The ones that are cute and fuzzy, or barring that, magnificent or culturally significant. Bald eagles, minks, seals, whales, and buffalo all come to mind. Who pays attention to endangered spiders or crickets? Or non-animal species, for that matter? No charisma there, so I guess people won't be frothing at the mouth over them anytime soon.

The only evil thing I know Irons did was when he complained that a reading he was giving was going to be sign-language-interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing and he was distracted by it and complained that he didn't know why deaf people would come to a reading in the first place.
That and the fact that I think he poisoned his wife Sunny von Bulow.

Plum, I see your point but I believe that there are quite a few people out there who are not as shallow as you think they are.

WISHIHADATONY,
I hate to break this to you as well but I hear that Jeremy Irons also is a fan of Sweet Charity...another reason for you to dislike him. I hear he even preferred the Debbie Allen version!!!

feng shui, get a clue.
I'm a HUGE animal rights person...the biggest I know, and this infiruates me. It doesn't make me hate Irons, it just makes me sad that people are so ignorant. It blows my mind.

Wow...how very melodramatic.
Boo! Boo! Hiss! I hate Jeremy Irons. He should be banished to the moors, soaked in urine, and fed to foxes.
BTW, I think chickens think foxes are pretty cruel and are just getting what they deserve...
