I wonder if this has anything to do with Crystal Bowersox not bringing "Always Patsy Cline" to Broadway. Perhaps this show made a higher bid on the Lyceum?

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I worked on a production of Love, Janis with Mary Bridget and she is a phenomenal singer. Very happy to see that she'll get to bring her Joplin vocals to Broadway. Has anybody seen both shows to say how they compare?

Hm. Not sure how this will play out on Broadway. Sounds kind of like a "End of the Rainbow" thing, but with less hype.

I saw the production at Arena Stage and was bored out of my mind. I found it formulaic even if well sung. That said I'm probably not the target audience. Those around me ate it up.

I've not seen this or the other Janis show, and only just now went to look at some of her YouTube clips... this woman has Janis' voice down to a shocking degree. For such an iconic and unique voice to be reproduced to almost-perfection is astonishing. I'm looking forward to her, and will be happy if the show around her is good.

As regards RippedMan's comparison, can I ask those who've seen it if it's safe to say that it's more like FELA! than END OF THE RAINBOW? A historical/biographical concert strikes me like FELA! would be the antecedent in this case...

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Probably more accurate. There aren't any book scenes to my knowledge? My friend is the lead's cover and does the matinees, so I'm excited for her!
