A Show for Grandma

My grandmother, my mother and I might be able to head to NYC next month
*hope, hope*

Grandma says that if she does end up going, she would like to see a Broadway Musical.
She doesn't like loud things.
She doesn't like violence and/or sexual innuendo.
She doesn't seem interested in the Disney shows.

I'm thinking Wonderful Town or 42nd Street.
Are those too loud?
Any other suggestions?

42nd Street and Wonderful Town are both good choices.

1. Hairspray is a GREAT idea! Why didn't I think of that? But hmm... I don't know if she can handle the excitement. I might have to just see that one with my mom. I'll ask her, though.
2. Caroline or Change seems like a bit of a downer, based on the Tony performance. Not thinking that's right for my Grandma. Sad things stress her out.

42nd Street would be good. Not particularly loud, no overt sexual innuendoes, LOTS of music...very much an old-time show.

I think HAIRSPRAY is a perfect choice for anyone. Maybe Marc could get you house seats and arrange a backstage tour.

But Marc's in California, and I wouldn't want to bother him.
And I wouldn't dream of taking advantage of our friendship.
He's done so much for me already
(I've got my Emmys dress all picked out, Marc!)

I think he does it all the time. Besides, just cuz he's in California doesn't mean he can't make a phone call.

I would have said Producers, because a lot of older people seem to like the show. However, there are sexual jokes, I believe. 42nd Street is a great choice. Not difficult to get tickets, there are probably discounts. It is a very enjoyable show - you won't be disappointed. And if you are...ah well.

42nd street is a good show and hairspray too. i can't stress going to see that show enough.

Fiddler on the Roof! I think it's a show that especially an older generation appreciates even more than our own..

Fiddler on the Roof is a great suggestion I think. That or Wonderful Town.

I'm sure Granny saw the original productions of most of these...introduce her to something new...she'll love Hairspray..the music will make her very happy. She'll be dancing out of the theatre.

i agree with M J R fiddler would be good! no loud music or anything your grandma doesn't like

She's seen Fiddler several times (including a production that I was in, which of course can never be topped), so I think something she hasn't seen might be more fun for her.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF or 42nd STREET.

I know my grandmother would HATE HAIRSPRAY. Too flashy, and a bit too loud. "You Can't Stop The Beat."

I'd go with 42nd STREET. Lots of older showtunes she would recognize.
