This felt a bit lost in the Roundabout announcement this morning.
Very excited that this play will finally have its Broadway debut. Mr. Fuller lived in my hometown in PA and I have been friends with his family and am still close to his brother. I remember when the play debuted off-Broadway. The whole town was so proud and even more so when the movie came out.
I just did some searching on the play and while doing so, I remembered that it was said that it did not go to Broadway because Mr. Fuller refused to remove the final line of the play. I don't remember if it was in the movie. I do hope that this production keeps it in.
Not the biggest fan of Leon but I think he will do a good job with this. As much as I love Caroline or Change (I saw the OBC and a stunning production in the spring at the Performing Arts School in midtown) I am more excited about this coming to Broadway.
Also some past posts about the play on BWW if you do a search.

I saw the play when it opened off Broadway with its remarkable cast. I think it is a "good" but hardly a great play. But Roundabout got the stars---so there it is. For me, an original play by a playwright of color would have been a more appropriate choice.
For $25, ill be sure to check this one out. Very interested what the final line of the play now is too! Cant wait for this one.
I'm guessing this will be considered a Revival. But hopefully Fuller will get a Best Playwright consideration.

The play is nearly 40 years old and has had 3 major NYC productions and a film adaptation. It'll be a revival.

It's not. There is no guessing. It's a revival and will be considered as such.
Even as a revival, it is still making its Broadway debut. That is exciting.
