I hear that the hugely successful revival of My Fair Lady is heading to broadway with an english leading lady (not that well known) who is currently in the West End in another high profile show.
Having seen the revival (and not actually being a fan of the film) this revival is pure class!

I think you wanted a . instead of a ?
And yes, we DO need another "My Fair Lady," it hasn't been seen on Broadway since 1994. That's as 12 year absence of one of the greatest musicals of all time.

I just think they are bigger shows in London right now that should be taken over to New York first.
Evita should go to Broadway( i think i am right in thinking it has never been revived on Broadway?)
And for a financial point of view Dirty Dancing since it's making a fortune here.

The London production of MY FAIR LADY has been rumoured for a Broadway transfer for about five years. Given that we are getting a concert version of the show in a few months, I somehow doubt that the transfer is "imminent" - which isn't to say it won't eventually come over - but I bet it wouldn't be for another couple of years.
An unknown British Eliza? Sure. It worked with Julie Andrews. The bigger question (and component in any transfer to the states) - who is going to play Higgens?

Scarlett Stralen is going back into Mary Poppins apparantly as Lisa is going to broadway. time will tell I guess.
I would say this would do better than evita, Evita has hardly been the hoped for success over here, and in my view the production isnt as strong as critics make out in my view. Some great parts, but some very lazy parts as well.

Posted: 2/16/07 at 11:26amI saw the revival in London with Martine McCutcheon and it was a gorgeous production. While Marine's upper register is a bit thin, her overall performance of Eliza was entrancing. I've never been a HUGE fan of the show, but I enjoyed every moment of that revival. And Matthew Bourne's choreography, especially Little Bit o' Luck, was wonderful. Absolute delight from beginning to end. I've been hoping it would eventually come to the US. I doubt Martine would be interested, considering her numerous vocal health problems and attendence, but I wish they would bring Joanna Riding, at least.

Oh yes, Joanna Riding was fantastic as Eliza. In fact, she has been fantastic in eveything I have seen her in, esp. A Little Night Music.
Is the production that may be transferring the same as Martine and Joanna's?

Posted: 2/16/07 at 6:13pmI would be beyond thrilled with a Broadway revival of MFL! I only saw my very first Broadway show when the last revival closed, and I've seen through the years that it is one of the best broadway musicals ever and have been waiitng for an opportunity to see a professional production of it!

Posted: 2/16/07 at 6:33pmThis production has been in preparation for some time now. A friend of mine was called to read for Higgins, but it seems that they are looking for an even bigger "name" for the role.

I hope this comes along, I've heard it was a beautiful production.

I wonder if producers will use the upcoming concert of My Fair Lady to test the waters of interest for the show here.
And let's face it folks, we all know that the only person who can play Eliza is Idina Menzel.
(Seriously though, my vote for Higgins is Patrick Stewart.)

I hope Jonathan Pryce can open the production with the frequently absent Martine, just so we can hear this pre-show speech he did in London (as related on Theatre Talk):
"...you are about to see the debut of so and so. this is your first Eliza, it's my second today, and my third in two days. And if there's anybody in the audience who would like to apply for playing the role of Eliza, there are applications..."

Posted: 2/17/07 at 2:57pmMartine was fantastic - I saw here on her first day back from being sick - and so she wasn't at her strongest, but she was still amazing. Jonathan Pryce is THE Higgins they need for Broadway. He was perfect.
