Just for fun:
Try to imagine a new Wicked pop-studio cd performed by famous pop stars...
This is mine:
-The Wizard and I (Nelly Furtado)
-What Is This Feeling (Britney Spears v.s. Eminem)
-Dancing Through Life (Ricky Martin)
-Popular (Madonna)
-I'm Not That Girl (Avril Lavigne)
-Defying Gravity (Celine Dion)
-Wonderful (Robbie Williams)
-I'm not that girl -acustic version- (Six Pence None The Richer)
-As Long As You're mine (Celine Dion with Ricky Martin)
-No Good Deed (Alanis Morissette)
-For Good (Nelly Furtado with Cindy Louper)
Ok, just for fun...but I think that 2 or 3 songs performed by a pop star with different orchestration could be a smash pop hit...![]()

Posted: 3/2/04 at 11:06amWicked is already a pop score... why NOT have pop stars sing the tunes?

Yes..I love Wicked and I Think is a big Theatrical Musical...
It's just a joke...But I like pop music too, so nothing really bad try to imagine a song performed by another singer in a completely different style...
Anyway I prefer the original cast and I know that theater music is very different ![]()
Ciao!

I totally agree with Norah Jones about I'm Not That Girl.
I also believe Vanessa Carlton... doing her own piano and voice of it.

I don't care what anybody thinks.....she has a voice that doesn't quit. Besides, I know she would have no problem with the notes at the end of "Defying Gravity".

jcr279 I Like Celine Dion voice too, She's not my prefer singer but I like her...Most of my choice for the pop album of Wicked are just for fun...Most of them are not my prefer pop stars, but I Think should be so funny to listen them sing those tunes in their style...For esemple I don't like Britney, but I find so funny a version of "What Is This Feeling" performed by her and her mortal enemy Enimen! ![]()
Or a pop Madonna version of Popular...

Posted: 3/2/04 at 4:55pmI'll stick to Kristin and Idina.. however Alanis could do some great stuff with the score.

Posted: 3/2/04 at 5:32pmRemember back in the good ole days when the popular singers of the day sang songs from Broadway musicals on their albums? Sigh those were the days... I may get shot but I wouldn't mind more of that as long as they do the songs justice. Which means NO MELISMA!!!!!!!

Posted: 3/2/04 at 5:35pmI'm all for keeping Broadway away from the awful land of pop music, but I do have to agree with Celine Dion singing "Defying Gravity." Her voice is amazing!

True most Pop singing IS melisma anymore so i don't think it would work too well. (Waiting for VoiceAnth to swoop in....)

I think Alanis could do a lot of what Idina sang.
I agree with whoever said that Vanessa Carlton could do 'I'm Not That Girl'- she has an amazing voice.
Hmmmm....... I love the idea of Britney and Christina doing "What is this Feeling"- it would be histerical. Or, change the whole gender and do Backstreet Boys vs. NSYNC. THAT would be funny.

There's a fine, fine line
Between Broadway, and just pop.
Sorry...I hate the idea of seeing that line blurred. I cringe at the Aida CD they have.

Posted: 3/2/04 at 8:27pmnothing against anyone here but : whoa i hate pop...by even suggesting pop singers may one day sing boradway songs will have the inevitable result of me having nightmares of having to sit through entire shows being sung by pop people. pop's so bright and...woohoo!(in the ditzy way), which means that they can't sing...well they can sing but they can't sing certain-i mean they can't....JESUS....i'm not even going to try to explain my thoughts about pop singers.
