Has anyone read "A Year With The Producers" by Jeffry Denman... its awesome... it takes us from days before Jeffy is to preform in the final cast of Cats last show until the day he is to go for Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom in The Producers---- its an awesome book... He was an original ensemble memeber of the Producers--- he played the blind violnist, FDR and Scott during Keep It Gay...
Anyone read this?!
I have! I really liked it--especially all the behind the scenes photos inside. I never saw him in "The Producers" but I was lucky enough to see him in CATS a few months before it closed. He was a great Munkustrap!
Didn't he go on to do ensemble or understudy in "Oklahoma"?
An absolutely fantastic book! A must-read modern theatre book that has 2 legendary shows, a handful of legendary performers, music, anecdotes, quotes, facts everything and it is all so funny and approachable! Denman really has become sort of an underground Broadway celebrity with this book...
I enjoyed it too!
I read that book when it first came out and was fascinated by everything in it from beginning to end. I love books where you're able to get an inside look into the goings-on on Broadway and wish there were more out there like that one.
Really neat book, and especially insightful for we young Broadway hopefuls. He definitely was a little too "kiss-ass" in certain places, and was obviously afraid to say bad things about anybody, despite leaving little hints...like he hinted that he didn't like how Nathan Lane kept on improvising during the show, but was then like, "Oh, he's wonderful"...things like that. There were a few other things like that which were a bit annoying, but overall I found the book really interesting.
I think Jeffry was in "White Christmas" out on the West coast, wasn't he? Anybody know what he's doing now?

Jeffry is so awesome. Lot's of fun. He did White Christmas and before that he was in his own show he wrote called "Changing Partners" in his hometown Buffalo. It is eery how much he is like Fred Astaire.

Does anyone know where I can send him an autograph request? I wonder if he married his girlfriend... she seemed like an awesome lady! Does any1 know what she did in 42nd Street?
By the way, I know I'm going to get railed for this, but how can Denmen be straight AND the choreographer for "Naked Boys Singing"?
I read it a few years ago, and it's a great read. What is he doing now?
I was just thinking about that book the other day.
I remember when I first got it I read it times that month and then lent it to someone and haven't gotten it back.
Where is he?
Everone has the same question but nobody seems to have an answer. He (Jeffry) used to post fairly often over on ATC. Maybe if the question is asked there he might see it.
He just appeared in The Broadway Musicals on 1929 concert at Town Hall last night.
this was indeed a delightful read..........and u can find it very cheaply usually at alibris.com or sometimes at overstock.com I only wish the book had been longer and even more detailed:) and sure, Mr. Denman can be straight and have choreographed NAKED BOYS SINGING........why not?
Last year, I read this book. I have to say that I love all the "behind the scenes" facts. It's interesting to find out how things happened or became in the show, such as the "sock" Scott the Choreographer wears in his pants - Mr. Denman was the one who introduced that!
I recommend the book.
