I know that Motown is coming back to the Nederlander. And, if memory serves (correct me if I'm wrong) the plan was for the show to return later when they announced it's initial closing. I was just wondering, is this a separate production from the tour? Or, is this an extended tour stop in the same vein as Hair and Fela?
The 2013 'Motown' closed up shop with intention to lower production costs and go out on tour and return to Broadway around this time frame. I believe this is an extended 'tour stop', or a sit-down tour stop (if you will), as the tour is not continuing while the 'revival' is mounted this summer.
Not sure why it should return, I thought it was awful the first time around.
IDK, maybe the $1 million take-in weekly at the box office made them make the decision to return? Just a hunch though.
I disliked the show myself but a money-maker is a money-maker.

You're confusing quality and box office success. Here's a refresher course as to why they want to return (with a lower weekly nut):

It's the touring cast. And possibly the last stop on the tour.
