#1A question about the set designe for Once

I was just wondering something about the set for Once. I know that there is the bar set up and then the brick wall behind it. My question is, is the brick wall just the back wall of the Jacobs? Or is it fake brick and custom built for the show?

I was wondering the same thing earlier this week and was going to post a thread! Ha! I was wondering how they would do it on tour of it is indeed the back wall of the Bernard Jacobs being used on Broadway..

I haven't seen the show but what was the set up in earlier incarnations?

For example, Spring Awakening used the exposed brick of the Atlantic theater, so when they moved to Broadway they created a brick wall to create the same and did the same on tour.

Logistically it would make more sense for it to be a set piece, which would allow for upstage/backstage cross overs.

I believe it's a set piece. I could be wrong though I just feel like at one time that was stated.

The back brick wall is a part of the Jacobs. The brick walls on the sides are part of the set

Yes as someone mentioned above, logistically on tour it would make sense to have a brick wall set piece that they travel with. Not all road houses would necessarily have the look they want. Also, travelling with the same look would cut back on load-in time in regards to lighting and focusing on the upstage wall (lighting wouldn't have to be altered in every new theatre).
