if only *something* would surface with her in it...I'd like to hear her.
Even after ALL these years -- nothing has surfaced (yet) of Ally in HEDWIG.
Here's hoping.
I really can't picture a woman playing Hedwig.
JCM is fabulous, as is Kevin Cahoon. They brought the feeling of a man being trapped and quite confused. I'm sure a woman with talent can be great and entertaining, but I would not walk away with the same feeling.

Oh wow, Jane, it really never occurred to me how much information we could pump out of you.
Other than JCM, I heard the best things about Cerveris and McGrath. Who were your favorites?
Well, I'm not going to include JCM because he WAS Hedwig, and natuarally everyone's favorite. Next I liked Cerveris, then McGrath. Both extremely strong. Kevin Cahoon had a big fan base also. There seemed to have been a 'rivalry' between the Cahoon and Cerveris camps!

From the clips on the Hedwig DVD, I really like Cahoon and Ceveris the best (outside of JCM).
I actually am not a huge fan of the film, it has some pacing issues, I think.
Did you get to see the show off broadway, husk?
I saw all the actors who played Hedwig down at the Jane St Theatre, and I love them all for their own individual takes on the role. Leaving JCM out of the mix, obviously, he IS Hedwig, but I pretty much liked them all but Ally Sheedy. I gave her a fair shake of seeing her 3 times over her run, and that was 2 times to many.... she progressively got worse each time I saw her. My favorites where Cahoon and Matt McGrath. Asa Somers would have been a great Hedwig, too, if he got a chance to play it more than the 5 or 6 times he did. But Cahoon was my boy.
believe it or not I actually saw a female FrankNFurter in Rocky Horror last year... but she was oddly incredible
Did anyone here see Bijou Phillips as Yitzhak in the show in L.A.?
I'm so annoyed I never got to see it live. I love the movie, personally. Although in the documentary they certainly don't make it sound like Ally Sheedy was terrible. That's a disappointing thing to hear.
The first time I saw the movie I remember being so confused (it didn't help that I was watching it with a friend at 2 in the morining). But when I went through it once just listening to the music, I loved it, and realized how amazing the message was. JCM is incredible, and I love Miriam too. I always thought a woman as Hedwig would have been interesting. I still think it could be. Maybe Ally just wasn't the right one.
ETA: sorry, findingnamo, that's who I meant. Typo moment, or brain fart or something. :/

Miriam?
You must not know what you're talking about, Jane. The operative word BK used was "incredible." Let's go with the second dictionary.com definition of "incredible": "2. not credible; hard to believe; unbelievable."
You are SO right, kimosabe. And definition 2 doesn't even begin to describe the fiasco. Oh, if it were only prudent to post what happened there. But I will not.

I remember reading somehere that Ally handed Maggie Moore the mic and said "You sing it" at the beginning of "Wicked Little Town" one night. Which doesn't make a lotta sense dramaturlogically.
I remember reading the messages that Mitchell posted to the fans to give Ally a chance, that she was his choice and that we all have Hedwig inside of us. So, the first thing I did after reading that was rent the heralded "High Art" film Sheedy did to much acclaim and thought she was as bad as she ever was, despite the hype. I knew it did not bode well for Hedwig.

All things considered, I guess it's a good thing there was a piece of paper with the lyrics on it lying around!
Yeah, I guess she was always prepared in case she forgot them! (I'd never suggest this stunt were planned!).
